Hi, apologies if there is already an answer on here somewhere - but I couldnt find one...
I recently took the battery out of my Focus 1.8TDCI 2004 to charge it (as it wasnt starting and had all indications of flat battery, which appeared to be confirmed when the charger was connected).
But now the battery has been reinstalled the car still wont start. The glowplug light comes on but its never come on before so I dont see what can have happened to cause an issue with the plugs.
Any bright ideas anyone? I'm hoping its something simple and cheap to rectify?

Does the glow plug light come on and go off or come on and stay on ?

You say the car won't start but does it turn over and not start or does it not even turn over ?

 

Hi, no it doesnt even turn over - just a series of rapid clicks like the battery is still flat, which unless my charger is lying to me isnt the case. Glow plug light is the only dash error light that stays on, not sure if its related or not!

Put a multimeter on the battery when its not in the car, if its under 12v its not charged.

 

If the battery is that wanked out a charger will either not recognise it's there and start charging, or will complete very quickly and the battery will not be charged. Test the battery with a drop tester or under load with the headlights on etc and see if it is holding voltage, if not just replace it with the proper silver calcium type that a ford with smart charge needs.

Don't attempt to jump start it as the smart charge system can throw a spaz, resulting in blown modules etc.
