Mk 4, 1.3l Studio, - brake disc change
Hi,
I've just given a home to a 1.3L 3-door Fiesta Studio, which I'm giving some TLC to get through the ITV (MoT here in Spain).
I've had decent second hand tyres fitted, a new rear passenger window, and I've replaced door handles and greased the whole thing up. It also had a problem sucking air, and stalling near tickover...thought was idle control valve (saw on another forum), so cleaned that out, but then found a cracked minor airhose. Some well-wound electrical tape later and problem solved!
Now to the point:
There's nothing left on the front pads and very worn discs, and I've never actually changed discs and pads (though I know the basic process).
Rather than hacking away at it wasting time, could someone direct me to a step-by-step guide?
Many thanks

Remove wheel. 2 bolts with probably a hex key fitting holding caliper on. Remove these and support caliper out of the way. Then you will see 2 further bolts with the traditional head on them. Probably 16 or 17 mm. Remove these and caliper carrier will come away. Then there will probably be at least 1 or 2 screws with either a phillips head or torque head holding disc in place. I usuall use an impact driver the loosen as they have a habit of seizing. Then once they are removed tap disc toward you and it will come off. Clean all mating surfaces thouroughly with a wire brush and a slight smear of copper grease and refit in the reverse order of the removal. Very easy job in reality
Pretty much what Cosworth Guy said, although i'm not sure if you'll have to take the caliper carrier off on a MK4, think disc comes off without, don't quote me on that though!
Also a necessity if your buying new discs is to clean them with brake cleaner BEFORE you fit them. Discs are coated in grease during production to stop rusting.

Hi,
Not yet found the time for this, but looking at parts...I can get vented discs (same diameter, though obviously thicker) for about the same price.
Does anyone know if the standard calipers (1997, 1.3 petrol) could take it, and is there any great advantage anyhow?
Thanks!
Jon
