How do the laws regarding use of force go in the states(or England for that matter), was the trucker within his rights to knock him down, out & continue pummelling?
Over here the moment you get the assailant down and he stops swinging at you, if you throw a punch it counts as an assault instead of self-defence, making you equally guilty in the eyes of the law. Or, in this case when the trucker's obviously bigger and stronger, he would be more guilty

It's minimal reasonable and proportionate force. But that's a whole debate in its self. As to what YOU believe to be reasonable and proportionate.
IE someone enters your home and tries to hit you but you smash thier skull in with a bat. Could hold up if your a skinny wimpish type with a good defence lawyer. Proportionate as you needed a weapon to equal your self.

he would just say that he was in fear for his life and took whatever reasonable force he considered to keep his assailant from attacking him again
either way, the rapper admitted yesterday that he was a twat and got his ass handed to him and that he's now a better person etc after first stating that he was going to press charges
