Default Granada/Scorpio vented calipers on SIERRA axle?

Is it possible to fit Granada vented calipers to sierra disc brake rear axle.
If yes what discs do I need.
I have read that they are the same as xr4x4 is that correct?

Yes it is. The Scorpio/Granada uses exactly the same calipers as the Sierra. The Scorpio/Granada 24v and Estate versions use calipers for vented discs like the Cosworth 4x4. All other Scorpio/Granadas use calipers for solid discs (less wide), like the 2wd Cosworth and XR4x4.

not strictly true marc

yes, they will bolt onto a sierra rear disc axle as the bolt pattern is the same, but they aren't the same as the xr as they only fitted vented rear discs (and matching calipers) to the 4wd cosworth int eh sierra range

however, finding the correct discs for suitability may be the issue, as, from memory, you'd need to get them for a scorpio frogeye estate which uses 253mm vented discs

if you can however source some cosworth spec rear hub flanges, then you can use these to fit 4wd sierra/escos rear discs that are 273mm and vented

the granada scorpio 24v (5 stud) and the scorpio frogeyed 24v (4 stud) used the same calipers and disc size as the cosworth 4wd cars @ 273mm vented whereas the granada/scorpio estates used vented rear discs but in the smaller 253mm sizes

I don't know what you mean what would not be correct in my statement, you just repeated it in your own reply. There are also lots of Scorpio/Granadas that use solid discs like most Sierras.

But yes, if you want vented 253 mm discs you can use the Scorpio 24v (frogeye). I even believe some Mondeo mk1/2 use the same rear discs.

They are not the same as the xr brakes though

All sierra/granada/scorpio rear calipers will fit each others hubs, the fitments are the same because there are only 2 caliprrs, solid and vented fitments, but you cant just fit them as they arent the same

I was just clarifying what you said

Ideal lads I work at a ford dealer so understand what you are saying,
absolutely fantastic info, will order the smaller discs as it's only slowing a ford ka down and can upgrade at a later date

Default 253mm and 273mm vented calipers

Gents,
My rear hub was fitted with 253mm solid disc's I upgraded to vented 273mm and bought a set of cosworth rear calipers however the bolt holes on the caliper bracket does not reach the hub bolt holes. Reading your threads I think I have the vented calipers for the 253mm disc. Can anyone give me a way forward with the components I have? Will the 273 caliper carrier cure the issue? If so any Idea where I can get a set?

Thanks in advance
Cliff

Cosworth caliper carriers are tall to allow for bigger discs

Thank you to. The bakes are on a kitcar with bespoke upright that the caliper carrier bolts directly to it. I prefer the 273mm disc but I think I may have to use the 253mm. Whoever make and supply the carrier will have customers lining up to purchase a set. Thanks again.

Hello everyone, my first post.=)

I have problems to find calipers to my upgrade.
i have a AC Cobra that have sierra uprights and sierra rear trailingarms.
the front was not a problem, found some 887/888 calipers here in Sweden, and i have bought 55mm 283mm disc, im gonna machine the calipers to fit the discs, i have read that this is doable, or machine the disc to 278mm?

Now i have started with the rear conversion, i will buy the aluminium 4x4 billet hub carriers for sierra cosworth
and then i will like to fit the 273mm rear vented disch, but know i cant find the calipers, anyone can give me some more info from what year of the diffrent cars that have the same rear calipers as the sierra cosworth 4x4?
for example, will this fit?

im from sweden so it is possible that my english sound funny sometimes..=)

Cars with vented rear discs all had the same calipers. The cars with vented rear discs are:
- Sierra Cosworth 4x4
- Escort Cosworth
- Scorpio/Granada Cosworth
- Scorpio/Granada wagon/estate (253 mm vented discs, but still the same caliper)

For the caliper carrier there are also 2 versions, one for vented discs and one for solid discs, the same as for the caliper itself. The Cosworth 2wd has solid discs, so it has different calipers and caliper carriers than the 4x4.
