Default Okay to sandblast magnesium rims?

Just got some OZ mag alloys wondering if it's okay to sandblast or will they be left badly pitted?

Would paint stripper be a better alternative to remove paint ? They are very flaky

You'd be better with a much finer blast material such as Soda or Walnut Shells.

Hi what paint stripper are you using as you need a neutral ph type or you will have bad corrosion issues after painting, even if you rinse them straight away.

It is ok to sand blast mag but as already said low pressure and fine grade or better with walnuts etc.

Ps don't take them to Romax in Teesside they recked 12 mag oz wheels of mine by acid dipping them constant corrosion after power coating. Ian Jemison Engineering of York recommends fine sand blasting taking your time.

I'm not sure on the powder coat v's paint on mag but I wont be powder coating any wheels again, as the powder coat looses the lines of the rim i.e the shape isn't as defined if you get what i'm trying to say.

For painting any bare metal especially mag and ally use acid etch primer first just a light coating (etch 8 is good).
