Default problems with fiesta alloys on escort van

Bought some 4 spoke 14 inch mk4 fiesta alloys to fit on my 97 escort van.
Had a nightmare getting the back two to fit & had to wet & dry round the wheel hubs to get them on.Fronts went on fine(or so i thought) went to drive it this morning & it didn't want to move. The front wheels are tight against the calipers
I'm really not very technical so hope someone can help.Is it down to offset difference on fiestas & escorts?
I've just looked on ebay & seen you can get spacers to fit. Will this cure the problem? if so what mm spacers should i get? I really like the look of these 4 spokes.always remind me of the old RS 4 spoke alloys & would like to keep them on the van if poss.
Thanks,Simon.

found out that escorts & fiestas of this age have same offset. So does the escort 75 van have a lot bigger brake calipers? would be grateful for any help.

alloys are constructed different to steel wheels so steels have better clearance and tbh 14s on a mk6 escort is too small should really fit 15s as a minimum

thanks for that 1-pd
would i have any problem with clearing the front wings with larger rims?
I've noticed my steering is heavier with the 14's(no p/s)although it was heavy enough before.does it get heavier the bigger the wheel?

escorts can run up to 17s with ease as long as tyre profile is well chosen, 15s are perfect and run 195/50/15 tyre but on a van you can get away with higher profiles like a 55/60 if not lowered
