just bought a 59 plate fiesta1.2 petrol today from the auctions with front end/airbag damage.i tried to start it before laving but the immobilizer light is just flashing and the engine isn't turning over.is there any way of bypassing the immobilizer to at least see if the engine turns freely.after I'd came out one guy said just to turn the key from 1-2 13 times and this will reset it is this right or shite talk.
thanks
thanks

How many keys did you get with the car, how bad is the front end as the it may not have bin unlocked/locked properly due to the bonnet switch? Does the the car recognise the key?

its a cat c so just one key, requires full front end bumper lights bonnet rad/ac rad and airbag set.think the car recognised the key as when turning the ignition a warning sound sounded to state theres a fault?

You may even find that its gone into shutdown till the airbags are fixed have you tried just running a live feed to the starter to see if it turns as the immobiliser could shut off a number of things but you can bypass them to see if it still runs

I just tried quickly in the yard before locking it up and cannot try anything else until its delivered.can I just turn the ignition to the on position and connect a power pack to the positive on the starter to try to turn it over then.

i'll give that a go when its dropped off,so do you think the turning of the key to reset it is rubbish.looking at the price of parts I might just end up breaking it but better to hear it running ect

I cannot really recall but I think it was priming I was more pissed off I didn't read the screen properly that it didn't start to really notice but that's auctions for you
Sometimes when airbags deploy on modern stuff it puts a 'crash' event fault in the body control module which will stop it running, once this is reset (Be a Ford IDS only job I would expect) and airbags fixed it can be started. I did the reset a late model Mondeo the other week for a bodyshop.
If repairing it, as well as the deployed airbags, the RCM (restraints control module) needs to be replaced and coded.
Not heard of the key trick on them, but you find guys at these salvage auctions always seem to know how to get round things.. *cough* pikeys..

we'll got the car dropped off today and tried the key thing but no good, got a full air bag kit so hopefully get that put in tomorrow and see if that reset anything and the engine turns over.theres not a drop of petrol in it so will stick some in tomorrow as the fuel pump can be herd primeing up.imobilser light just flashes very quickly on dashboard

well put the new dash in changed the seat belts and module hoping that would sort it but nothing still wont turn over.the petrol pump is priming when the key is turned aswell.turned the key to ii and placed a live feed on the starter it spins but doesn't seem to be engaging so will strip the starter out to check tomorrow.would a second hand ecu with keys clocks ect sort it if it is in "crash mode" or any other idea's.
TBH, without Ford IDS you'll struggle.
As said above it's probably got a crash input on the body control module stopping it running which as far as I know can only be reset with a dealer tool.
Might be worth speaking to a local large bodyshop to see if they have come across it, I'm only guessing as we don't do crash repairs as such. I have done a reset on a late Mondeo though.

Body control module is usually part of the fusebox in the car.
Some late Fords have immobilser features in body control module, as well as engine ECU, and in some cases instrument cluster too, they don't make it easy at all for stuff like this..

my mates stuck his diagnostic machine on it today and came back with immobiliser fault so no further forward have ordered a second hand ecu/key+ignition receiver/clocks and central locking module to see if that sorts anything when it arrives.

well changed the ecu/alarm module/chip and transponder and still wouldn't start till I put the clocks in.starter motor wasn't engaging as cog was stuck solid took nearly 2 hours to free it but once back in car fired up straight away and runs sweet as a nut so good gamble on buying the car as a non runner.
