Has sat untouched for over 11 years or so, proper garage find

Got it home yesterday but haven't had a proper look around yet but usual back end of sills, lots of slight rust spots starting all over and a nasty bit right under the seal around windscreen at the top of the A pillar, it'll be a screen out job to put it right.

Not exactly sure how it's going to turn out, probably won't do a replica but probably not left completely standard either.

I mean really the 13's are coming straight off!

If the 1.6 Pinto is knackered that'll come out and I won't be spending money on rebuilding it.

But you never know, it might not be seized? If it free's off with a bit of Diseasel then I wiill run round in it this summer pretty much as it is.

Gonna pull all the interior and carpets/sound deadening stuff out & have a good look at the floor pan as that's the only way you really know where you're at with any Sierra.

I'm going to give it another wash this afternoon and have a look underneath.

I'm pretty chuffed with it though to be honest

Went to subscribe to my own thread to find it easier and noticed the poll option.

So, even though it wont make a blind bit of difference as to how the car turns out i'm interested to see the opinions of you lot.

The car has already had a few people say "oooh RS500 it" and some suggesting I should only restore it - even leaving the 13's on

I'm thinking subtle tidy & hopefully tasteful additions.

Slightly lowered - not right on it's arse.

A brand new set of TSW Hockenheims.

Probably some Recaro's I have up in the loft.

Anyway vote away

Initially thought rep it, as never thought a standard mk1 Sierra is the prettiest car going, but can't think of the last time I ever saw a mk1 Sierra on the road!?
Think the only thing that spoils a replica is when it still has the original A reg number plate!

I'd restore it to as new, exactly as it is now. No modifications.

I'd say modified but not a cossie rep, maybe lowered on minilights or image wheels depending on your budget, bit of smoothing maybe, nice paintwork and a V6 transplant.

A little update...

The Sierra had been bought in 1985, when it it was 7 month old.

The owner then got a Jag in 1998, he put the Sierra in his wife's name and she bimbled about in it until her death in 2002, which was when it was last used.

It went back into the second owners name, then mine, so that makes me the 5th owner.

When I got it home I gave it a clean up

Name: IMG_2634_zpsf9e993f6.jpg

had a little look under the bonnet, got a spanner on the crank and I'm pleased to say the engine was free, put a battery on that I had to see if the starter motor was willing to play, I gave it a few turns and all was good, so I chucked five litres of fresh fuel in and eventually it started

Do whatever you do without cutting the shell, or making anything irreversible. Bolt on bits allow you to change your mind.

See if the paint will come up with a good mop and polish, original paint is better, always.

After that, do what makes you happy with the car, but I have to confess Id struggle to look past the 'almost free' V6 options.

Look at how wonderful a stock Mk1 Escort or Capri looks now. Take the long term view and keep it boring and stock as, perhaps, the last 1.6L Sierra. Twenty years from now you will be pleased you did.

I know what you are getting at but I'm the one who has to drive it (now daily) The awfully uncomfortable seats (drivers is twisted somehow, and majority of interior is knackered) those mirrors that just vibrate and you can't use them for what they were designed to do. The 13'' wheels which in turn make for an insanely high tyre wall - doesn't do much for grip and stability in my opinion.

If I had loads of money and a museum then yes I'd put it away. BUt don't worry I think that may well be what Jim Robson might end up doing with his?

Very true, however the tunnel is the early, narrow tunnel which will only accommodate the 4 speed box and probably the 5 speed type 9's. So might have to modify it to get something else in there.

And yes I am going to make myself happy with it

I have small tastefull additions in mind (well I think so anyway) Photo's will follow.

I have some alloys ready but the hubs aren't! It will stay white though, as said above the original paint is always best but if it came to a respray it would be white.

Indeed, a budget is what I am stuck with - makes sense to 24v it

Cheers Glen.

And the red V8 was recently sold I think, awesome looking car

The family that I bought the car from said that they wanted someone to look after it and he thought it would end up with alloys and a spoiler which he said is what his wife wants so... it will be something like.

This all happened last March by the way, some small things have changed

A rusty line starting down the seam of the O/S floor pan to inner sill but nothing to worry about just yet I don't think.

Any thing other than what has been mentioned what you see is just dirt.

I felt it was a gamble buying this car but I think I've come out winning up to now

See that on pistonheads and got to admit it looks a right laugh. If it were me I would be tempted to go v8 and build a drift machine.

It's back on ebay also I think?

V8's are cool as.. a friend of mine has a v8 mk2 Escort

I had a closer look at the back end, took off the bumper and removed the lights to have a nosy around.

Rotten inside, that void in the rear quarter, gone at the seam.

Could be worse though!

I put all the interior plastics in a red hot bath of bleach & washing up liquid, then scrubbed them with cillit bang!

The interior was pretty much fucked though! Carpet is alright, door cards are falling to bits and the seats are a bit manky & the drivers seat appears to be sort of twisted - very uncomfortable on a long journey, they came out & stayed out but don't worry purists I have kept it all in the loft

It sat around on the drive for a few months until I randomly booked an MOT test, so put some mk2 steels on & off we went

That's sort of my plan, sort of, but I don't like pinto's!

Well, most people take a bit of time to do the obvious jobs and then get a test. I just woke up one day and before I knew what my fingers where doing I'd rang my MOT place and booked it in for the next day. No preparation, just turned up with the car.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Might be hard for you to like since you have a load of other Sierra's and a couple of Cossie's. Stick with it though Jim.

Speaking of MOT's it failed on a little bit of welding, the exhaust was leaking, steering rack boot had split and the headlights were not working properly.

Not bad seeing as it had been years since it had last been used.

So it had oil & filter, air filter (Motorcraft lol), plugs, HT leads, distributer & cap, brakes stripped, cleaned ,checked etc, new shoes and cylinders.

Looking good, if it were mine id sort the suspension uprgrade the brakes, nice set of wheels 3dr lower spoiler and just have seats door cards retrimmed keeping motor looking standard then change engine for 2ltr pinto with tweaks/upgrades or 24v even run good exhaust and have a standard back box to match exhaust so it looks proper bog standard
