Default 2002 Focus TDCi Project, The Black Beast

Hi everyone I'm James, just bought this focus off my mate last night for the grand sum of £200.

Im not gunna say that it's immaculate and perfect in every way because I cant lie like that, my mate was a farmer which explains how dirty it is, but he bought a 1.8 petrol and I've always loved this car so when he offered me it I couldnt refuse.

Only got two pics at the minute and they're in the dark....and she's filthy haha, but anyways here she is

As you should be able to see if they've uploaded its already lowered and on different alloys, Im not usually one that goes for aftermarket alloys but I think these wolfrace's suit it and will be staying for a while.

Plans are to tidy it up, get what needs done welded, clean it, dress up the engine bay a little, exhaust system, and in the future maybe a cheeky little remap.

Tell me what you think of it and anything I could do to it,

I'll try and work out how to get the pictures to work when I'm home, new to forums but been lookin round this one for ages lol

There's a hole on each sill needs patched, hopefully won't need new sills, there's a few rust spots round the back arches but its not too bad yet but will all get sorted in due course

Defo a step up from my last car even tho I still have a soft spot for it, had a 1.4 8v polo 6n, got it cheap as chips but heart wasn't in it so got rid for a bike then got rid of the bike for this

I have had 4 bikes a 125 scrambler a yamaha dt 50 a derbi senda with a race tuned 70cc engine and i am restoring a kawasaki gpz 500s. I got to cars a fiat panda and a hyundai accent mvi. But geting a mk2 fiesta soon. Hahaha. but your focus is better then than both my cars.

Cheers mate what a lifesaver! Pics are up now, will put some up of the state of the interior as think I'm gunna give it a quick hoover today, will be givin it a deep clean soon with all seats out etc

I've had a quick look through it mate will read it properly tonight, think Ive read through it before I joined aswel as it seems really familliar haha.

Would be good if you lived a bit closer as my sills are like what yours were, and Ive never even tried welding apart from with industrial c type and x type spot welders lol

Does look a really tidy car though mate, bein treated properly

Cheers buddy, looking to get it properly cleaned this week some time but things are a bit rushed with interviews etc lol

Didnt get any after pics of the hoovering as its no where near perfect but I ran out of time, will get some when I get the seats out and give it a proper clean though

Fucking hell, that doesn't look like it has seen a hoover or hosepipe ever.

I don't know how people can let their cars get into that kind of state inside. Outside fair enough especially in winter but inside, that is rank.

Any pics of the bits that need welding?

As for washing and cleaning stuff indoors, it has to be done sometimes. I remember cleaning up an old SU Carb and getting stale petrol all over the front room carpet years ago when I took off the float pot lid. Stank for ages and meant there was a smoking ban for a while. (Shows how long ago that was, smoking indoors).

Glad you are really enthusiastic about the car, I'm sure you will soon have it welded, cleaned, polished and gleaming in no time.

Yeah I know its absolutely filthy but I'm kinda ocd clean at times so it should all be fine in the end.

Want oppinions on this, as its just an idea atm, always thought it was a weird place to have the intercooler on the top of the engine on the focus's and looked at kits to move it to the bottom grille but there quite expensive, what's peoples opinions on bonnet vents? Not stupid ones, but was looking at focus rs ones or even mk3 astra gsi ones, should get a bit better air flow to the intercooler

Cheers mate, yeah I am really enthusiastic about it as I've always loved focus's, my step mam had a 04 edge tdci from brand new years back and I loved it, found some pictures of this one from years ago when it was gleaming and want it back to that standard lol

The stock intercooler design is quite clever and very simple.

If you were to go down the traditional front mount route the only reason to do it would be if you were fitting a much bigger core.

Not worth doing in my opinion.

I knew thered be a reason behind it being there I just always thought it'd be quite restricted, may be just coz mines had the air scoop to the intercooler removed, might just nick it off my grandas transit connect tho

Was just a little thought as have seen a couple and its looked alright but then again some look awful, sorry for the lack of updates been away all weekend so cars a bit neglected atm lol will be gettin back on with a few bits and bobs today hopefully

Well this thread died haha, along with the car, not long after I last updated I was forced to get rid of it, too much work to do apparently and a less than enthusiastic family about having it on the drive, let it go for scrap but since then got myself a job as an apprentice hgv mechanic, riding round on a 12 plate 125 bike at the minute til I get my lisence - apprentice wage is shocking! But now thinking more and more about another car, and it might not be a focus this time but have looked at a fair few mk5 fiesta zetec s's, whats peoples thoughts on them? Dead thread I know, probably wont get any replys but oh well haha

Yet again old thread revival but I've now got the chance of yet another focus...its an 03 1.8 petrol zetec 3 door, with a suspected blown headgasket...bit stupid to buy a car that wont be able to drive as soon as I get it but the plan is to buy it and fix it up and have it ready to be on the road just before my driving test which should be quite soon, also price is ridiculoausly low haha, anyone done a headgasket on an 1800 zetec and anything I should look out for? Not a complete newbie at stuff like this by the way I'm a hgv mechanic and done a few head gaskets just wanna hear from someone that mighta done one before

What's the symptoms then? Unless you are paying scrap value I wouldn't bother personally. A head gasket kit, cambelt kit plus a skim and the labour you will put into it is probably going to cost you more than a runner would.


But then again if you fancy a project go for it.

Its a bit more than scrap money mate, and it does need a bit of a tidy up, I do quite fancy a project and all labour can be done by me and a mate whos on the forum currently got a 1700 crossflow mk1 fez and an xr4i so he defo knows his way round ford motors - I cant seem to find a decent cheap focus at the minute and ultimately I do really want another one
