Reading the ford mags and recently seeing a thread on here for his springs I wondered who he was so had a quick google and found this on a forum.



There was a time in the nineties/noughties when every single RS Turbo you saw advertised was said to have an Ahmed Bayjoo chip. A lot of them did. A lot of them were being sold by folk who clearly didn't know what an Ammad Bhajoo or whatever was, but nonetheless wanted their car to sound the bizzo, regardless of truth or spelling.

So who is Ahmed Bayjoo?
He's a dude who started at Ford as an apprentice, showed great promise and technical understanding and was made Technical Supervisor at a Ford dealership in the late eighties. In the era of growing prevalence of electronic engine management systems, Ahmed took to tinkering with ECUs in his spare time, to see what they were really all about and determine what untapped potential lay therein.

His talents were soon spotted by Ford's Head of Motorsport, Peter Ashcroft, who appointed him Consultant Engines and Electronics Engineer. Ashcroft's agenda here was to harness Bayjoo's skills and apply them to the WRC development program, the learnings of which would feed into mainstream models.

Of course, we know him best for his bespoke mapping in the aftermarket - something he was allowed free reign on in addition to his day job at Ford. It makes sense for the consumer - who better to map your ECU than a corporate-trained motorsport expert? His multi-faceted understanding of the knock-on effects of tuning and unwillingness to chase horsepower at the expense of torque earned him kudos as a specialist among specialists, and applying his work to a modified Ford makes perfect sense; it's the closest a boy racer can get to having his Escort tuned by the works rally team.

So that's why a lot of RS Turbos have Ahmed Bayjoo chips.

I found that quite interesting. Doesn't seem to be any other info on the bloke.

Ahmed Bayjoo worked with Ford and SCS with the development of the Racing Puma.

 

Worked at grove garage doin piggy back chips etc. believe that's where he started doing springs from

 

I had a cossie that ran his chip ... it was quite agressive

 

He used to make chips better than McCains

He still maps cars for grove garage, he mapped my old mk2 zetec turbo fiesta, the car was a animal after he mapped it, spoke to him last year about mapping my current mk3 fiesta but decied to use devil developments instead

Very helpful chap. I had a ecu that was mapped by him and after a few phone calls I was given his mobile number which I sent my text asking questions about ecu which he quickly replied which was fantastic as he didn't know me.

I find that most ford nuts are very helpful.

 

Trouble is unless you have a live map most chips are mapped to give extra fuel as a big safety margin Burton don't wanna sell chips that will blow a engine to dust.

wasnt he the main man for mapping MA developments cars in late 90s early 2000s.??

remember reading a lot about him in the mags back then

 

Wasnt bad.. but was rich in places. . But was well up on torque

Slightly off topic, why didn't you ever bother to map the Weber? Or did you but you don't know if that makes sense . Lol

 

He used to do a lot of work with Harvey at SCS back in the day , road mapping and on the dyno, and of course the RS turbo chips as mentioned!

Both the RSTs I had in the 90s had his chips.

 

Known ahmed for years ,always have a laugh down grove garage when he,s in there,he was in the ford motorsport team mapping the escort cosworths ,you will see him in some of the old rally videos ,gave me an rs200 brouchure a few years back,proud to say he maps my s2

 

The go to guy for RS mapping then.

Your not wrong he was not interested in owning a fast Ford. He would turn up driving a clapped out old Ford when i last used his skills.
He mapped my Sapphire when it set a new rwd record Topspeed back in 2002.

 

Nothing to do with the genuine Ahmed Bayjoo but I remember that shyster on the RSOC claiming he sold "Ahmed" chips and when pushed claimed it was actually a guy called Ahmed Kahn instead lol, who no one had ever heard off. All he was doing was copying other people chips and trading off the genuine Ahmeds name.

Forget his name from back then, he also sprayed diesel CVH gearboxes black and claimed they were genuine datapost rs turbo group A ones!

 

He's a very Clever, friendly and honest man. I enjoyed talking to him and trying to learn as much as I could in the little time I spent in his company.

 

he live mapped my old 300 bhp zetec turbo and is still one of the best cars ive owned and drove , he also mapped my engine on scs dyno with harvey and made great power , very clever bloke and also a gent and some who you can trust and have a good laugh with while getting a great service.

Ahmed is still working at grove garage every week. People think he isn't about anymore but he is still doing the same great work that he always has done. Mapping is just the tip of the iceberg,he is top class at anything to do with engineering performance cars. He is the only person I trust when it comes to looking after my car.

 

Mark and Ahmed turn out some amazing cars that enter Grove Garage.

Ahmed is a very cleaver chap and not just at mapping, his Leda suspension setup and 6 deg rear beam are one of the best modifications you make on a cosworth. He's been making these for years and way before anyone else had even thought about 6 deg rear beams. other examples available today are copies of his design.

Whilst at Grove for a MOT last year, Mark was working on a bespoke "twin internal fuel pump system" for an escort cosworth that would provide enough fuel for over 500hp without having to use an additional 044 pump and swirl pot, an amazing bit of engineering.
Both Ahmed and Mark know their stuff, top lads.

Reading PF en FF over the years I knew a little of him.
I understand he was the "Wizard of Cos"

Then it was getting silent about, maybe because I'm from overseas.
I was thinking he was kidnapped by aliens, to make there spaceships go faster

Far as i'm aware he left ford motor company around a year ago and continues to provide great work to the car scene on tuning. He's probably the most expensive to date to have your motor tuned but there a reason for that and you can see by people's response above on how well he's tuned cars over the years. I'm tempted to get rid of my power engineering chipped ecu and get him to sort my rs turbo out.. if it make any difference i don't know but apparently he's chips for even mfi are pretty unique compared to others...

 

I have never found Ahmed expensive, actually a lot cheaper than other places I've heard of.

 

Don't know where your looking then Steve or on a better note where am i looking, as i must be using cheap tuners?

 

I 1st heard of Ahmed back in the late 90s. As i had my zvh built by area six and he told me to take it to a place called grove garage in Essex to get it lived mapped. I was the 1st one ahmed had live mapped on ofab for the zvh engine and that set the stage from then on!!! been going to grove ever since you can learn so much from him. hes a top guy and very down to earth. there is not much info on the net about him.

 

always used to read about Ahmed in the ford mags as a youngun..... and he was one of the best, heard he'd gone back to ford but didnt know he was still around mapping and tuning for the joe public

Was that Trubador? Takes me back, I remember him having lots of people over.

 

Ahmed mapped my first 500bhp engine back in 1999 before Mark did his own mapping. Remember getting a speeding ticket on the way to the Dyno because I was running late. However Ahmed got stuck in the same traffic jam & arrived after me . Great memories of days long gone.

 

I think he ended up having his hand in Viezu the chip / tuning company
