Default Steering column issue

Simply had the column in the car and bolted up fine, took it out as i needed to sort something on the pedal box and now refitting the column it appears to have lost some of its length that pokes through the bulkhead - my heads battered and its been in and out about 6 times and nothing seems to have helped.

Anyone ever had this?

This has pickled my mind, i marked the shaft the other day before i removed so everything went back the same - replaced yesterday fine and matched the marks - removed today and went to replace and the mark is no where close - only 26mm of the shaft exposed in the engine bay side

Wd40, a set of mole grips and a hammer, should sort it mate. Mine had moved too.

it moves up and down a bit when you remove it if you've yanked it

it's not obvious but some parts of the column go inside other parts

also, make sure that the corrugated section at the top is still the correct shape and not had all the metal bits flattened down

it's a black collar that goes around the top of the column but sits below the bit the steering lock sits in
