Default st170 to RS conversion

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, wasnt sure where to put it.

I was thinking of getting rid but this opportunity may of come up instead

I have a Focus ST170 and was wondering if i could get hold of a mk1 RS donar car whether everything would fit straight under? I know it wont be this simple but would it be a case of rwmoving the front subframe of the rs and putting it under my 170 or would it have to be an engine out and put it in my car? I know its going to need wiring etc and its not as simple as im putting it but wanted to know if it would fit ok.

I see what your saying but theres a few reasons really. Insuring a converted 170 is much cheaper, i can get the donar car for a lot less than a functional rs, i like my car and i want to try something different. If i know it will fit then i will give it a bash but if its going to be an absolute nightmare and require loads of parts then i wont bother and keep saving for an rs haha. Im hoping because they are a focus it should be ok.

i find that very hard to belive , i was actually more to insure a st170 than a RS , and other people have found that the same

You will probably have issues with the gearbox mate, the ST170 has the 6 Speed box which is a lot shorter than the RS box so your Focus may not have a cut out the inside of the passenger side inner wing for the RS Box to fit. You could keep the 6 Speed getrag box but you will then need to modify the flywheel and clutch as the dual mass fly and clutch setup will not take the power out the RS engine.

You will also need the full engine management loom and ecu etc but that shouldn't be too big a job

It's a basic nuts and bolts conversion the rs and st170 have the same mounting points just need to use the st170 drive shafts nothing needs cutting at all can be done in a day if you competent

There is or was a diesel rep on eBay today. Full panels and interior from an RS just a shonky engine. Would be easier to buy that and swap your stuff over maybe?
