Default level 8 versus autronic sm4

is their a big difference between l8 and autronics on a road car folks ,i m just wondering is it overkill on a 380/400 bhp car .

level 8 seem to be upto the job

The good thing with after market is it's flexible so it's one cost then if you ever won't more power it's just a simple re map plus all the built in features it has.
Mate of mine has vipec on his 500 odd bhp saff I think that's just as good and cheaper

Level 8 is fine.

However it can't be mapped on the entire island of Ireland (To my knowledge) and you really need a new loom to make it reliable (£400-£500).

If I was doing my car again, I'd probably go aftermarket.

I am going over to vipec as I wanted to bring the engine management up to date, part of this is a new loom and coil on plugs etc and to move away from the distributor running the show for the spark timing....even when I started driving 23 years ago the distributor and the points seemed a poor system. I can then also get Mark Shead to map my car who is local enough to go back to when the car has further developments.

James, you could use Level 8 for a 500 bhp car, just because you're only after 380-400 doesn't mean you can't go after market either , i had Vi-Pec on my Tommi Mak Sheady built for me and it was superb, so many functions and i have to say the idle was just like stock, Autroinc can be temperamental on cold start, it was on my Sapph and my other Evo.

Level 8 will do the trick too though

cheers andy ,

i am pretty sure i will stay at the 380/400 mark on the saff mate ,get it mapped the once and leave it and thought the level 8 would suit my needs

paul i have the sm4 and new loom[2 to 3 month old for both] and a level 8 with launch and traction enabled too just no wasted spark ,but at the end of the day i want the car to be as reliable as possible

im not in the fortunate position to be near any of the big tuners ,and will pretty much build/map and then forget hopefully.400 ponies and rwd is plenty for me lol.but i take your point mate

pete the reason i got the autronic at the time [which was before vipec hit the shelves lol]was because you had it fitted to the saff and it seemed a step forward when i rebuilt it back up .i never heard of a cold start issue with them so thanks for the heads up matey.im just thinking is it worth having 1500 quid of management sitting on a car that will probably do 500/1000 mile a year.
my old saff was l8 mapped by msd and was fantastic and never let me down

James, it just took a few secs for it to turn on Autroinc bud, Sheady will clarify I'm sure, i think this was quite common on it tbh.

im sure mark said to me that their was a new updated chip for the sm4 that made it much better on start up.. my old saff felt like a new car once mapped on autronics compared to the l8 that was also live mapped.

I,d actually prefer a slight delay gives some time for oil pressure to build up .Or better oil flow.
