hey all
ive got a 2002 1.6 focus with a strange idle problem.
when its cold it idles fine but as soon as it goes to warm the idles dip when coming to a junction but when the clutch is out on idle its hunting from 600 to 1200rpm but put the clutch back in and it levels out after 5 secs

idle control valve looks original but ive taken it off and looks immaculate inside

anyone have any ideas whats causing the problem??

where the idle valve is situated if you look into the curve of the manifold there is a t-piece that has three pipes, two go to the manifold and one goes down to the crankcase breather this pipe collapses and ruptures and will cause your problem it comes complete when ordered from ford and is very cheap easy fix

 

that pipe seems to be intact and complete althought the plastic breather going into the block looks old but the pipe looks to have been replaced in the past as the finis code is still wrapped on the piping

 

ok once that is fine there is two things you can try first disconnect the battery for about a half hour this will reset the ecu learned parameters ,the other thing is take it to a dealer as far as I can remember there was an update for the ecu to cure that issue but try the battery disconnect first

 

Hi had same trouble rough stumbling idle cutting out.
would like to thank Wagon Dec for his advise regarding vacuum pipes.
mine had split .
so tye wrapped it lol
temp bodge until I can get a replacement.
