Default Escort GTI brake upgrades

Not for me, my mate! He has a GTI and has just fallen into the trap of spending all his money on his motor! He's got loads of plans but takes his time about things! He just asked me about brake upgrades and i havn't really got a clue. All i know is that the focus ST170's go straight on but they're quite a bit of dosh so he aint up for that. Anyone else know other brakes that would be worth him upgrading to and how much they'l cost? Cossie brakes maybe? Don't know!?

Any help mush appriciated!

just about to do this myself mate, offered cossie 4x4 callipers and discs up today and I couldn't get them to fit! the carrier fouls the abs ring gear, if it didn't have abs then I could get away with just using spacers

easiest bolt on upgrade is the rs2000 brakes as its plug and play but above st170/mondy options are good too

The ST170 is by far the best budget upgrade you can do. The GTi brakes whilst not being amazing aren't too shocking. He could just fit some decent discs and pads and flush it through with fresh fluid but to be honest this would likely be ob par cost wise with the ST170 conversion. Cowsworth stuff can be sourced but as soon as you say "Cosworth" parts seem to shoot up in price.

I've got a pair of RS2000 calipers/carriers if he wants to down road tbh with good discs and pads you would need anything more than that. As said that the ST170 disc and MK3 Mondeo set-up is good as its a bolt on job but pad chice is very limited with that caliper and you will need bigger wheels

i ran 4x4 cos calipers and if i recall 2wd discs.
did this back in 2002 heres the pics.

you need to cut out a section of the carrier to clear the abs ring.

the carrier needs spacing from the hub

you will also need custom brake lines.

Funny you should say that but when we put the 300mm conversion on my mates rs2000 i got the old calipers off him thinking they'd be a nice upgrade on my gti but they were exactly the same as the ones fitted so i went 300mm as well in the end

Mark.

rs2k discs are 20mm bigger so perhaps the upgrade had already been done
