Default Camber shim problem 3dr

Hi all

Just fitted my camber shims on the rear of my 3dr today and when the drive shaft nut is done up tight it is pulling the driveshaft into the back of the trailing arm locking it solid. Anyone else had this issue or no a fix for it???

Any help would be most appreciated. Cheers

Yes use different bolts on the shafts as the standard ones stick out the rear and prevent it turning, i found out that way too

What Degree of shim are you using as the hub will only put up with a small amount of correction before the ABS ring locks into the trailing arm, I think it was literally 2 deg max on the DOME shims .

Just been back through some threads and saw a pic of RSMATS when he fitted his and his driveshaft looks very close to the trailing arm but someone said he may have had the bearing carrier machined!!

Im assuming this means machining the rear of the bearing carrier to compensate for the additional added by the camber shim????

Maybe I need shallower shims as mine are abut 5mm at the top????

That's what i was on about ,ive seen that photo too and it just looks like the std bolts come through the driveshafts and touch the trailing arm , shortening them would help but it doesn't cure the initital problem .
Are you using coilovers on the back ?

Then I would tempted to reduce the amount of rake on the shim and compensate to a certain degree by adjusting ride height.
Paul , theres no choice ,it was how GpN cars were made tolerable ,the difference even half a degree reduction makes on a stiff car was incredible , the first time I did it I found over half a second a lap .
Its the first thing I told Ronnie to do at Brands a few years back .

I have some shims that came off a group a rally car, and they are at most a couple of mm thick at the top iirc.

Ok guys thanks a lot for the help so far. I think im gonna wind the driveshaft bolts out slightly to see what clearance I have then go from there.

I would reduce the mm of the camber shim but was told the 5mm ones where the ones to have????? Its approximately 35mm lower on the rear than standard.

I never had any issues with the carrier at all, just different bolts and it appeared fine, did loads of road miles and rolling road, when i removed them it was as if they were coming off easy - i'm putting mine back in as the difference it makes is really noticeable

Done it today All I done in the end was put another set of spreader plates on the back of the driveshaft to stop the bolt from going right through, now the bolt sits flush and everythings spot on!

Cheers for the help guys
