I saw this on eBay too, was dubious about it being 'new' but the bolt holes don't look to have any paint inside them the same as new or un refurbished ones don't, could possibly be an old sample piece that ford considered using at one point but never went with, just a thought?

From what i remember the Panther Solo ones did not have Ford written on them, BBR bought the last of them from Cosworth, I saw them all lined up there years ago.

Maybe meant to go on one of the tall block exchange engines, or it could well be from a proto engine meant for another model but never used. They did try them in Granadas and other models under evaluation.

I have a new dry sump version with no oil filler hole at all in it, there were a number of non road car cam cover options made over the years by cosworth

This is the dry sump version, they do look good in crackle black though, reading the ebay ad for the black one it all looks legit and brand new.

How do you know it 100% new and came from ford in black?
If none of the cars had black ones is it not more likely that some one along the line has taken a new one and made it black?

Probably just a repainted one, I wouldn't trust the brand new description

check the ebay advert, its a brand spanker underneath as well. Its not just a blasted and repainted one, you can tell if you know what your looking at.

My red one is a repaint, and was fully bead blasted and had an excellent paintjob, compare it to the black one

I see what you're saying. So it may not have been used, but sprayed black, that would make the most sense to me. Especially given the fact it says it was initally intended as a "decorative piece".

A good metal finisher could strip the paint off one and clean the alloy so it looks brand new inside and out!
Just seems odd ford never did one in black then some one has a black one saying it's a genuine one lol
It could have been a new never fitted one that someone has had re done in black to use on there car! But there's no way of really proving it came in black is there

I doubt anyone would fake it to the extent that I can see by the pics that its brand new and genuine and not a repaint. It also shows the box it came in on ebay. Yes it could be done but why bother? last I looked it was selling for less than a refurbed one. I have never seen a refurbed one that has the bolt holes machined out after painting to bare metal, and cleans the underside back to bright bare metal

YBs were shipped out to the states for use in single seaters, they were not just intended for Sierras and Escos they came in all guises, Ford only pulled the plug in their use for road cars due to the recession in the mid nineties, they used the excuse of emissions, but the last small turbo YB met every reg under the sun throughout the world.

I'd say it's much more likely to be a brand new never fitted red blue or green one that some one has had re done in black that's why there's a box.
That's a much more likely story than a guess to be honest and there's no way you can tell it's genuine just from seeing pictures lol
If cosworth can finish them to that standard then others can!

I would have a fair wager that its brand new and not repainted either.

Find a pic anywhere on the net of a refurbed YB cam cover where the bolt holes are bright metal, and the threads for the cambelt cover bobbins are that clean. Plus done in the matt sandcast paint that cosworth use.

Only brand new ones come like that.

Lol all these ifs and what ifs but still no one has ever seen a new yb with a black rocker cover!
But many specialists on here can tell from pictures that it is the real deal

I take it google was not your friend in disputing the facts I listed.
A dry sump one is a bit different as did they not race with them?
But saying that it could even be one that just was not finished lol
And what facts have you listed and why would I google any thing?

Hang on you talking about the paint not being in the bolt holes lol any good machine shop can do that! How is that proof? Or did cosworth do that by magic and no one can replicate it?

Balance of probability is its new and its genuine
It still dose not mean it's 100% not been put to black mate just because there's no paint in the holes dose it!

By the way I bought it direct from Cosworth, brand new.
Then you have the proof that's needed on that one all the other one has is here say and might be's

As pics show not panther

Was talking to a panther officianado at the nec classic car show this year about the yb in the back of his car and wasted ford wouldn't allow panther to have cosworth on the cam cover

No idea what it's from mind...

I'm with Paul S on this one, that black cover is new.

Some other funny ones.

Not sure what's going on this week on Passionford, first we have a very special/overpriced 3 door, and now a unicorn cam cover, maybe Christmas is in the air?
