Default barn find mk2 escort ghia

hi thought I would start a project thread on my mk2 escort 4 door 1.3 ghia.

So after hearing of a friend of mine that he knew of a mk2 escort that had been tooked away in a barn since 1997 I managed to perswade the owner to let me go have a look around the car. As soon as I saw the car I just thought yes I need this car and after speaking to the owner we came to an agreement and the car was mine this was how it has been for the last 16 years ha

I do have some more of it in the barn but my phone is playing up at the minute.

Yesterday we went and cut all the grass and we pushed the escort out and got it recovered back to my unit

so when I looked round I checked and only saw the front valance need a little tlc and the corner of the front passanger wing. Anyway my mechanic stuck it up on his ramp today and said it will only need a tiny amount of welding less then 30 mins and he reckons all it will need for an mot is new brakes all round and to give the engine a good service as we have not yet heard the engine run and I will give it a really good clean tomorrow all comments welcome thanks marc

I was more interested in the van first, thought that doesn't look like an MK2 until my eyes wandered over to what was parked next to it.

finally had a minute to work on the escort this morning so I put the new battery on the cleaned the points and dizzy up check it had a spark added some fresh fuel and then we had this

once we had it running I gave it a quick clean and it really is in good shape considering its 33 years old and is still on original sills, wings, doors and bonnet and boot. Don't get me wrong there is some surface rust but nothing that carnt be sorted easy its going in for an mot some time next week carnt wait!!

well it went for its mot today and failed. But we did nothing to it apart from get it running and put some air in the tyres.

It failed on
rear brakes in balanced
hand brake not working properly
no water in the washer bottle
a side light
and emitions

so am very happy at that as I don't think that is bad at all so hopefully be on the road in no time

Check the other side of the fuse connectors as the wiring could be corroded, check for good live and earth to the heaters

they have a resistor on top of the fan motor, well near the motor. they tend to corrode and stop working.
could be that, but u have to take the heater out i think to get at it from memory?

well iv done 70 miles this weekend in the escort and loved every mile plus its ran perfect and had a lot of looks

Iv just bought accuspark electronic ignition for her too!

im also looking into getting some mini lite replica wheels from midlands wheels and was wondering what people think
http://www.midlandwheels.com/Product...G/BIG/2658.jpg

there
7x13
et-7
with 175 50 13

im hoping they should fit on the escort with no body mods ? im going to lower the rear end of the escort by 1inch.

So not updated for a while but iv gave the car a full service plus fitted the electronic ignition.
Iv bought 2inch lowering springs for the front and 2inch blocks for the back which I should be fitting in the next couple of days if all goes well.

Then tonight I have just gone and got some jbw 13x7 minilites that are brand new but never got used on some guys project so I got them for a bargin price very happy guy at the minute
Got some pictures but carnt seem to upload them so al try again tomorrow.
