Exclamation so i went to view a supercharged vr6 today. (UPDATED, JESUS CHRIST!!)

as you know i started another thread last night, heres a bigger picture. i know your not VW nuts but is always nice for an opinion!

so i went to view a supercharged vento vr6 yesterday. loads of engine mods like conrods, racing clutch and pistons but no history to back it up, not even rolling road printout.

its got a z-engineering charger on it, pulleys looks ok and i could dig my fingernails into the teeth so didn't feel worn in my opinion, with the boost hose off to the air filter and MAF there was a bit of oil or more like a bit of sludge in there, couldn't check the shaft for play as the belt was still on it! now it was dark so couldn't check for loads of smoke, but when he revved it hard on the drive a few times i couldn't smell anything to say the charger was buggered. car was warm upon arrival even though it hadn't been taxed since September so a possible problem being hidden there as a cold engine hides loads of problems don't we know! charger was quiet when started and quiet when left to idle for 5 minutes or so. no strange noises when driving on full boost. there was also a boost controller in the engine bay.

carpets were full of water as was in the boot moist so a big issue there, either a sunroof drain leak, windscreen leak, door membrane leak etc cant see a light seal letting that much in............... which is a bloody pain to sort as the interior needs to come out, new underlay and find these bloody leaks................. ive had this issue with my current vr6 but sorted it now! just very very time consuming and frustrating! radio was missing, no speakers etc as parcel shelf was cut. looked like around light in the boot had a repair as there was paint in there. abs and airbag light doesn't come on when ignition is turned on so a possible problem there. side skirts had new screws in them like wood screws holding them to the sills??? i didn't look at everything so may go back again when light. glass in it also from a window being smashed? brake pipes didnt look healthy and loads of other bits.

also car was not in his name although he claimed to had owned it for a while!

now guys i am more concered about the charger in my first paragraph as i plan to drive the vento for a bit then stick the charger in my golf VR6 and break possibly sell the vento. as you know z-engineering are impossible to get parts for, don't we know! it also had air con and my golf vr6 doesn't have aircon so would anyone have the measurements to what auxilery belt i would need?

thanks in advance guys, your all a great help

firstly is this legal to put these MOT results up??

right been doing more investigating, its been off the road since 2010, MOT'D in july 2013 and failed on loads. i believe this guy has bought it off someone in july 2013 and trying to sell it on for profit. see there was an MOT yesterday on the 6th november 2013 and now an MOT today 7th november 2013 with a pass, but notice some of the big fails in july 2013 are now advisories.

july 2013 (fail)

6th november 2013 (fail)

7th november 2013 (pass)

Sounds like a right shed of shit. Unless it is advertised for breaking money, walk away.

Oh and as for the Peter dude, Get his details and give him a ring!

A lot of it though is down to the tester's discretion. A tester may fail a car for corroded brake pipes, yet another will pass and advise. Same goes with worn bushes. Just depends on the testers opinion IMO, they might be borderline.

I'd walk away from a car that's been warmed up before I got there, every time. It's just not worth the risk.

If I understand right and you're only wanting this car for the charger, I would say pay the price that you would pay for the charger (unless that's more than what the full car is worth) if you think it's ok.

If I don't understand you right and you want this car as absolutely anything else, even as a fancy garden shed, I'd walk a few steps, then jog a few, then sprint the rest of the way home with your money...

my intention was to buy the car and nick the charger, put it back to a standard running engine and sell it on, take a £500 loss roughly and ive got a charger for £500, a used charger for a vr6 is around £1500-1800, i couldnt sell it on knowing its a dangerous car, really couldnt, its a disaster waiting to happen!

The fact that it failed are now showing up as advisorys would tell me he took the car to a dodgy MOT tester!

I agree with others... walk away. And I'd be tempted to report this MOT station.

If your only after it for the supercharger alone and it's cheaper than buying a new one or trying to get a 2nd hand one.

Go for it as long as price is right and whip it off and break it!!

It all sounds like bad news. All that water could be from crash damage and not repaired properly.

Also, as above, whenever I have gone to see any car I always explicitly ask to see it from stone cold. If it isn't, then my mind is already suspicious from the off.

Stick with your guts on this one and walk away imo.

If the rest of the car is in that bad condition, who says the charger isn't? You could buy the whole car just for the charger, only to fit it to your Golf and for it to be buggered. Not worth the time, effort, or money. I'd wait to find find something more promising.

How do you get the .gov page to list the faults/Advisory points?

Tried with both my cars and lists the MOT station etc but doesn't list anything else!

i stripped the charger down when on the car, boost hoses off and pulleys / belts so i could see it was good and had no play / spun nicely etc.... was nice and quiet aswell! he actually let me do that!

So if a used charger is £1500-£1800 and this guy wants £2000+ for a charger and what seems like a massive headache, why not just buy a charger? Seems like you've set your heart on this but be careful, especially as it's not even in his name.
It sounds like a big risk.

As you've said (somewhere), you can't even get parts to repair these chargers anymore anyway, so if it fucks up in 6 months time.. it seems like you're entering a whole world of pain.

the intention was to buy it, take the charger off and sell it on for a £300 to £500 loss, but i couldnt sell it on knowing it has all these issues and its just so time comsuming to sort them out

you cant get parts for these chargers off the shelf but they can be made up by guys on the VW forums

That sounds like a complete heap of crap thrown together , a real bodge job.
A complete waste of time buying it to keep the charger and then resell no one with half a brain would buy that nail sounds like a scrapper maybe £500 to one of these vee dub scene twats to fit some cut down springs and stretched tyres on massive Audi rimz.

I'm not asking about a trip to the mot station!

As the OP has got a .gov window open on his screenshots! So what I'm asking is how can you do it at home?
