I've got a 55 plate with 75 k on the clock, it's a 120d M sport jobbie. Best car I've owned tbh. I was told that the area to look for was the rear axle location as they are quite torquey and can loosen the rear.
I'm interested to know how easy it is to remove the swirl flaps

Early 2007 car will have the later style swirl flaps that are a lot better but can still fail. Electric steering column lock fails, look out for a yellow or red symbol on the dash.

Most importantly of all is the timing chain. Listen out for any noise - they have a problem of failing and they are located at the back of the engine!

Gearboxes are strong but clutch judder can be a problem when the car is hot or cold and your only option is to replace it realistically. The auto ‘boxes are strong and rarely need any special attention but do look out for odd behaviour; a software update usually cures it.

If the DSC traction light stays illuminated then it can mean the ABS pump has failed but have it plugged into a diagnostic device to be sure.
Genuine suspension problems are few and far between although if the steering feels like it is gaining play check the track rod ends first of all.
Creaking interiors are usually down to the door rubbers rather than the doors themselves and lubricating them will cure the problem. A creaking steering wheel when turning from lock to lock is most likely the rubber grommet in the bulkhead that the column passes through.
Any strange issues with the stereo, sat nav or handsfree kit is most likely a simple software issue that can be done at the dealers and if the wipers stop working on their own accord then a replacement module will be required.
If the PDC light comes on the dash or any other warning lights behave strangely then check the PDC unit isn’t getting wet. It’s mounted in the rear panel and requires some trim to be removed to access it. It can get wet if the filters mounted in the vents behind the rear wheel arches are fitted incorrectly as some were from BMW.

Other than the odd squeak or rattle they are very strong cars.
