Rear seat belt retraction help
One of the failing points on my 4i for the MOT was one of the rear seat belts didn't retract as quick as it should,
I've taken it off and WD40 it's brains out but it's looking like a sealed unit so can't give it a good over haul!
It's still retracting slowly so any other ideas before I start hunting a new one
Cheers

Sounds super picky to me. Does this effect the locking of the seatbelt? I thought it was down to the lock action and as long as it retracts it's fine?
I'm no expert but it's the first time I've heard a fail for a slower retraction speed of a seat belt?

Don't know might be?
It does retract and locks if pulled out fast
But does take a long time to retract!
Might just put kids car seat in that seat for retest as they don't fail it just note down it wasn't tested!

If the car was first registered after the applicable date the seatbelts have to be there.
If it was registered before the date you can take them out but, if they are there, they have to work.
I have 4i seatbelts in the shed if you need to replace it.

Was it about 86 that law came out ? .Does the seat belt feel damp at all ?.
Extend it out fully and get a hair dryer on it.I have had this when they have been damp or not quite at the right angle they should be.It slows them down when they retract.Sounds a bit picky though as long as its working as it should be.

Iirc the fronts are pretty much fool proof when fitting because of were they sit but rears can be moved. Its 5 years since I changed all the belts in my Sapp but I had an issue with the rears.
Slacken off the bolt that holds the seat bealt assy to the car and run the belt in and out see if that does anything. It may of been the top mount I had a problem with I think as there is a plastic washer there and it was binding a little bit and not returning to where it should of been making the belt return slowly.
Does this make sense to you lol.

Had the same problem on an old Rover. It failed on retracting and broken casing on the part it clicked into. The back seats were manky and never had the need to carry rear passengers,so took the rear seats out and it passed!
