Default RS TURBO CABBIE RESTORATION (UPDATED 16/06/05)

hello there people just a post to let you all have a look at my on going project, it was started about a year ago then shelved while i left the country for a year out travelling around the world where on my way i picked up various skills and abilities, one of which was a advanced welding corse.

so on returning to see my cabbie i cringed at the welding that i was happy with a year prior to having a trained eye so the whole lots getting ripped apart and done again.
Once the body works done i'm going to be fitting a turbo lump and probably running stage one (165BHP)

WELL THEN TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK???

ohh yeah the tanks not new its hammerited?

How's it going m8? looks like it's going to be good. I'm after a bit of advice, i've got a mk5 cab and want to replace the wings, how do you weld them on? Cheers.

BlackCabMk5,

theres very lttle to weld when fitting wings on the MK5. They are two bolts holding the wing on at the door post(behind the splash guard) the only place to weld them is where the wing sits on the slam panel and and theres a small tab like thing that needs welding behind the indicator. its best to bolt the wing on first to check your happy with wear it sits, once your happy with the way the wing sits put a few tack welds on the panels and your finished. then put some seam sealer over the welds for the professonal look. as for removing the old wings i would recomend buying a spot weld drill bit, as using a hammer and chisel to break the spot welds would make the job a lot harder cause the panels under the wings twist and tear when you break the spot welds.

Well after much arm twisting we got the engine dropped off at my house what a monstrosity!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Took the head off only to find it was full of cobwebs and insects
snapped two head bolts off trying to take the head off, then had to chisel the head off the block
So a new head is now on the cards, looks canny cleaned up, you wouldnt think it took 3 hours to get the head and block apart looking at the photos.
Also painting up all the ancillary components too.

ERE, WHOS THAT GOOD LOOKIN GIT ?????

[/b]

Now that its clean it easier to get to work on it next pistons out and a good internal clean up, new shells and rings.

Well then aint the weather lush ?????
still got only a few minor bits done to the inner wings but on the upside of things i managed to do some arm twisting once again and got a hold of some cossie 4 pots which were machined up, as a ready to go bolt on brake mod.
I've since fitted a new seal kit and give them a general clean up, while also doing the same with the rears
Not long now and i'll have the engine bay sorted out and give it a lick of paint.

At last the weather held off long enough for the inner wings to get a coating of paint didnt turn out to bad in the end just a slight rub up with some t-cut and they will be ready for the engine and box.

also have fitted the dash, clocks , seats just to get them out of the spare room looks like its really starting to come together now.
