Bad news for all enthusiasts alike

The councils should do a compulsory purchase order on the houses.

If this noise crap carries on there'll be nothing left of British motor sports soon

Hate hearing stories like this.Ffs if you dont like the noise dont move near a race track. Its just the same as moving near to a airport.

The moany bastards can have my house and I will have theres.I will quite happily listen to the sound of cars going round a track.

It is a fucking pathetic sign of the times when you can move next to a noisy location and force them to change thier ways.

Thing is, cant see the councils or government caring as they hate us petrol heads as it is. So they dont want us on the roads, they dont want us on track...... guess they just want us all to fuck off and die or drive a prius which is the same thing?

Funny how crap like this is upheld and yet new runways and HS2 etc seem to move around under the radar.

I doubt it will close down, if this was to hit the major press there would be an uproar. Mallory is sentimental to many.

The majority would respond much like we are and call those complaining every name under the sun and im fairly sure they would soon back off when they are reciving more hate mail than they would have time to read.

Happened round here, no more oval/stocks etc. as they built a new estate next to the track and the entrance was accessed through the estate. The same estate got heavy restrictions on the speedway and shows too.

NIMBY's getting their own way again!

I suggest you all get the facts guys. It's not how everybody guesses. You honestly need to delve into it to get the real picture of who's at fault.

If you read through the thread on pistonheads you'll see the circuit organisers left the 'nimby's' as you all put it no other option.

Fair enough you live near a circuit you expect noise but when there has been an agreement in place since 1985 between the circuit and local residents on how many noisy days can be run per year and then all of a sudden the lease holders of the circuit start running more than twice the amount of days there supposed to and wont listen to any form of reason.
What other option do the residents have than to use the legal system to force the lease holder to stick to the legal agreement which was known to the lease holders before they took on the lease ?

Now all of a sudden its the residents fault the lease holder took the piss big time, got caught out and bite them in the arse ?

I was just about to reply but you've basically hit the nail on the head.

Other points to think about are that the vast majority of residents want the track to remain in use.
The current leaseholders cut down a load of trees that apparently did help reduce noise, to make the MotoX track.
They were also offered a 50% reduction in rent two weeks ago apparently and they refused.

I don't know for sure but I really get the feeling that the actual landlord has had enough of them too and wants them out.

I feel the threat of closure more than most, as it is my local track that I use for track days, watching races and next year I was looking forward to racing there (with hopefully a bit of an advantage with local knowledge)

The PR with the local residents is terrible from all accounts and they have fallen out with a lot of local supporters. The issue statements on their website and act like the victims yet if you look at responses from residents on FB, towards these statements, it really does paint a different picture.

I was initially the same as most others with the "shouldn't have bought a house near a track" but when I delved deeper, I ended up siding with the residents.

to be fair, the noise order in 1985 was the beginning of the NIMBYism in the first place and shouldnt have been allowed in the first place considering back then mallory had still been there decades.

Its pathetic really. Round my way there is a really good pub with loud live music. Never bothered anyone before until a hotel chain decided to build a hotel nearby and they have been complaining ever since and are trying to get the places music license revoked. They shouldnt have built a fucking hotel if they didnt like the noise of the area.

The "NIMBYism" apparently only started when the new management took over Warren. The residents were fine with the previous tenants, even if they did overstep the restriction themselves.

I live about 3miles from the track and have spent a lot of time there, but they have had loads of warnings about noise, they agreed to cut days open down, build noise reduction barriers large banks, but none of this as happened

Nice to know there's a few more locals close by that have followed the whole story too & not just jumped on the band wagon after reading the heavily biased press releases the lease holders have/had been putting out

I've spent about £1500 in total, visiting Mallory this year (track days, fuel and consumables for these days, spectating at races etc.) and really want it to stay but having really looked into the situation, it really winds me up with the "Shouldn't have moved near a track" attitude as that seems to be what has caused this eventual outcome.

I'd like to draw peoples' attention to notes 3.3 and 3.4 as you might see a bit of a coincidence:

Adam can the Landlord not kick them out if they are breaking their lease agreement. A pub I deliver to did the exact thing as the new tenants did not run the premises as laid out in the agreement.

It sounds like Mallory is not the problem but the people running it ?????

I think you're right on the management side mate, they really haven't helped themselves at all. I'd like to think that Chris Meek/Titan (the landlord) wants them out and to do it themselves. There's a bit of a contradiction on the lease though. Apparently they offered the mgmt a 50% reduction that was refused recently but they've put it up 40% over the last few years.
I know nothing on the terms of their lease agreement. When I had my pub though, I had to run it to the best of my ability etc etc. I'd be surprised if there wasn't something about bringing it into disrepute though.

2 sides to every story.
this does compare to an issue near me. a clay pidgeon shoot was forced to close after houses were built nearby and the new residents complained about noise 2-3 times a week. the council refused the complaint so the residents went to the environment agency as a stream runs adjacent to the shoot. the residents said that lead shot polluted the stream. a 12 months monitoring took place and found nothing. the residents complained again louder so the monitoring was extende for another 12 months and a tiny amount of pollution was found. the shoot closed.

Is Mallory slightly different to other Circuits within the Country on the subject of how close the houses are ?

Croft, Cadwell, Knockhill are quite isolated, do Silverstone get any issues, obviously Donington has been well documented for years. Don't really know much about Snetterton, Brands and Thruxton

I think they're the closest in the country.

And the management cut a load of trees down for the MotoX track.
Chop down a natural noise reduction and let rip with a bunch of angry wasps.

Unfortunately people see the headline and the facts aren't underneath in crayon. Pretty retarded to think that somebody would buy a house near a race track and then moan for the sake of it. Yes I'm sure they want the traveller site or pushchair and staffy brigade there FFS!
I think it's more like this..........
People want to move to a nice village, oh there's a track there for the family to go to and it's ok as they don't have things on all the time.
Hang on a minute they do now and we're getting fed up now because the old management were better to the local community whereas this lot seem to be taking the piss out of us.

However, what chance do we have when the likes of Pistonheads and the Editor of a certain magazine just jump on the bandwagon?

So it wasn't the resident NIMBYS then!

From Autosport:

Mallory Park owners say operators solely to blame for troubles

By Ben Anderson Tuesday, October 8th 2013, 08:22 GMT

The owners of Mallory Park say the circuit's operator is "solely to blame" for the difficulties the Leicestershire race venue finds itself in.

Mallory Park Motorsport Limited, the company that runs the circuit on behalf of leaseholder the BARC, was put into administration at the beginning of last week, after negotiations over an increase in the number of days it could operate for, plus a reduction in rent from the landowner, broke down.

Landowner Titan Properties, the company owned by former racer Chris Meek that saved the circuit from closure 30 years ago, says it offered a "50 per cent" reduction, but that this was rejected by MPML.

Titan managing director Brian Robinson said: "This amount was less than the rent paid in 2005 and indeed 2003.

"MPML demanded a much lower figure and subsequently the company was placed in administration with a view to protecting it, at the expense of the racing activities at Mallory, by threatening closure and not offering the company and its lease for sale.

"The previous owners of MPML - the Overend family (who ran the circuit until 2005) – had an excellent relationship with Kirkby Mallory village since 1985, with no problems, but circumstances have changed, due entirely to actions by the new owners of the company.

"Over the last three years the turnover has virtually halved, due to loss of major events, a disastrous relationship with the village, and failure to negotiate an improved racing use schedule. MPML is solely to blame for all this.

"Tragically it appears that Mallory Park is being sacrificed by the leaseholder for reasons other than racing."
