Default Escort RST smoke issue please help!

Hi my s2 is excessively smoking on cold start up (blue) and then clearing and no sign of smoke again till the next startup what is causing this? I have a new turbo and engine was rebuilt 5k ago is it possible some oil seals or whatever need replacing already?

valve stem oil seals would be my first shout, they can be replaced without removing the head with a special tool.

This be careful not to drop a collet. Its long time since doing this but a Ł1 extendible magnet it worth its weight in gold

yep AND it pays to cover the oil gallerys to minimise the chance of a collet going in the sump

block the oil returns, I dropped a couple when I was a apprentice many years ago, I left them in as we had some spares from another head. (it was the bosses car)

I've got the tool and a set of seals that I cant ever see me ever needing now I'm running a zetec.

Seals shouldn't have gone already if they were replaced at build, but it does sound like oil getting into the chambers whilst parked so maybe valve guides are worn?
Or the ring to bore clearance is too big (closes once warm), was it honed or re-bored?
What oil are you using?

My tuner said that the bores was honed
I'm using 10/40w oil
What's the next step for me? Maybe rebuild the head completely?

Hmm could be that they are out of tolerance then, who is your tuner and did he build the engine?

10/40w is not the problem.

Not necessarily the head mate.

mines is the same. im thinking its the turbo letting some seep past or valve guides. it doesn't do it for the first 5 minutes, then it smokes for 30 second-1minute then goes away completelty
