15mm thread on track rod end?
hi. is 15mm of thread into the track rod end enough to be safe please? i think it is but just want to be sure as its on my brothers car and not mine.
thanks
thanks
thanks, i have since done some google and found that 1 to 1.5 seems to be the general opinion. the thread i think is around 10mm off top of my head but not measured so 15 would be 1.5 so should be ok then?
put adjustable top mounts on and with the negative camber it gave crazy amounts of toe in and full adjustment on track rod end was not nearly enough so we had to cut track rod end down to allow it to tighten in further. cant see any other alternative?
Cut the track rod down or the track rod end?
iirc Fiesta track rods fit a focus rack and are a bit shorter if thats what you need, shouldnt cost you more than Ł25 and will save faffing

cheers but its on my brothers type r not my focus. its a common problem with them that top camber mounts screw the toe up. the more i mess with this civic the more i realise they just dont like being modiifed. everything we do has thrown up problems somwhere else.

How many turns does it go on by? My car as standard only has 10 turns so would have thought its about the same amount of length of thread
iv had none of these issues with my focus. i dont know how many turns to be honest. i got some new ideas for it no as im not happy with 15mm so new track rod ends will be bought. im gona look into a thinner lock nut instead. you can buy new steering rack rods to cure the problem and allow more adjustment but at 395 i think not.
Years ago I saw an XR2i that had simply gone through a deep puddle and ripped the TRE off the rack! It hadn't been screwed in much either.
Have you done any research to see if there's anything else in the Honda range that will fit to make it more safer?

yeh its 395 tho for the rack rods. although i think15mm of thread would still take a huge force to rip out i cant settle my mind on it.i want at least 20mm plus but i have some ideas.
