Default Just bought a new car.... Clio V6

Work has slowly grinded to a halt on my 2wd Cossie build, so thought I'd cheer myself up with a new daily...

Picked this up cheapy cheap needing a bit of work

This is me about to tow it 160 miles back home lol

Name: null_zps4c70703f.jpg

Just done a full service, 6x new coil packs, new clutch master cylinder and a few bits and bobs. Mot'd and taxed it today

Just need to put some miles on it now as its not turned a wheel in 2 years!

I'll do the cambelt in the next week or two, just needs the bodywork tidying up a bit and a gay roof scoop taking off lol

Yes the turning circle can only be described in nautical terms

I'm a bit undecided about whether to take the engine out yet or not, I've heard it can be done both ways but the only way to get it spot on is engine out, as there's 4 adjustable dephaser pulleys to contend with!

Someone round by me had one and i saw it one day in the petrol station but he seemed a total nob so I never bothered to have a chat about it.

Not really no, but this one is..

Is it a Ph1 or Ph2? They say the Ph1's were frightening in the bends but the Ph2's are much better!

I had a phase 1 years ago and never found it frightening the bends! It's a mid engine'd, RWD, short wheelbase car! Yes you've gotta be careful in the wet, time and a place! I px'd mine for my evo 6 rsx and the clio held on better than the evo (in the dry) to the point the new owner of the evo was slightly surprised on the same roundabout. Mine was on new'ish michelin pilot sports. To be honest if the bloke I got it from hadn't taken me out and shown me what it could do I'd have driven it around like it was a loaded gun after reading all the internet horror stories.

No they aren't that fast. Yes a normal 2.0 sport would keep up, but unless you've owned one you're missing the point in even comparing the two. Does rather grate on me when people say "the 2.0 is just as quick"

They are just a great ownership experience. It was a car not even remotely on my ownership radar but after owning one it goes firmly in my top 5 favourite cars.

If you don't like attention, do not own one of these. I've had dozens of sporty cars and never had even half the attention in anything else.

If you've got a tight garage they are fun too. Remember backing mine in, open door.. Ah, door almost touching wall and the huge side skirt was stopping me getting out. Was ok with the ns really tight against the other wall.

Prepare for a sweaty back

You bought a clio v6 as a daily? You must be mad

I do have a soft spot for these, as said not really much quicker than the 2ltr, but they look and sound much better.

I'd heard he had a good rep, and can see why. He's also well known for being very fair with his pricing mate too.

I drove a Phase 1 from Bath to Crail and back when they first came out (it was a press car). Nearly span in Bath... then nearly span down the slip road out of a service station. Then nearly killed myself at Crail and ended up in the field at the end of the drag strip!

Hilarious car, and it got sooooo much attention, but it's just too much for me. I'd want a car that you can be a hooligan in, and still come home in one piece.

I get what jameswrx is saying that you can't compare them to the Sport, but the comparison is always going to be made, and in anything other than perfect conditions the Sport is a quicker, safer, and a more fun A to B machine.

The V6 does sound awesome, and every drive becomes an event. It was just too full on for me, and I think you're either certifiable, or very very brave to have one as a daily.

Sure, there are better cars out there. If I wanted a better car I'd buy a 335d. But it's not "raw", they're common, and these things were a one off mental design.

I'm happy :-p

Love the noise, so much so that I've not checked if the radio works yet!
Steering lock = wank
Handles brilliantly

However I've not really put my foot down to the limiter as I've no idea when the cambelt was changed...

It's a bit weird listening to every little transmission noise, pulley and pump going in a road car, but you really feel connected and part of the car which is very good
