I once came across one that had halved in size, it had half snapped, that half had ripped off, and somehow the other half held on!

I had a mk2 Golf GTI once that the tensioner was seized, they have a groove in the centre of the tensioner which wore a crack in the belt all the way round, snapped the belt by hand when I took it off!
