Had the escort cosworth out for spin the other day and it felt fantastic, went to start it yesterday nothing, just spinning over. pulled the injector rail up and fuel flying out of each injector, pulled each ht lead and all sparking. Went through an ecu list from here which was great , all the reading were good except the phase sensor which read 775 ohms but only
0.2 volts a.c. when cranking. Ordered and fit new phase sensor and new crank sensor,still just turning over and only 0.2 volts from the phase sesor. Also my pectel monitor is showing no sensor errors.
Now fed up and ran out of ideas, can anyone point me in the right direction?

The thought has crossed my mind the bloody thing, could be a trailer job to a decent garage then.

 

My Sapphire's going to the garage this weekend as it goes. Massive oil leak from oil filter. Not sure how its happened but the power steering pump is loose and pivoting about. Not sure whether it had locating bolts in it to the block and these have sheared off, somehow making the pump hit the filter on a run and buggering the seal. Thats a theory anyway.

 

Is the battery working as it should ? Is the crank sensor free of dirt etc?

Its not map sensor is it.When its turnning over does it smell of fuel.Have you had the spark plugs out.

Had spark plugs out, all sparking when engine turned over. The garage does start to stink of fuel after ive tried it for a bit. So I have spark, I have fuel, fuel pump comes on with ignition,I even shorted it on ecu loom to check its working and it comes on. removed rail and held up in the air while someone spun it over and fuel flew out of injectors in turn. Haven't looked at the map sensor yet,didn't think this would stop it from starting? still concerned I'm only getting 0.2 volts a.c. from the phase sensor?

Tell me about it mate!!!! My Focus RS is just the same, in the last 4-5 weeks it's been off the road about 3 times (fortunately with just minor things). It gets to the point when you think fuck it, i'll repair it for good with a box of matches and a gallon of 4 star but then once it's sorted out and on the road and you've just had an "enthusiastic" drive it's all worthwhile and the problems forgotten about.

 

I hated my last cossie and it was all my fault trying make a car into something it never would be coupled with a bad budget . With a few years away and a massive learning curve plus a deal with myself i would never mod another car unless the mod only took a day so the car could always be used I'm actually enjoying this one as ive accepted the car for for what it is a 24 year old ford lol and i know it will be a bastard some times but this time itll be tired parts rather thaan chasing numbers

 

Newer cars can potentially break just as much as older ones, it's just older ones tend to be generally easier to diagnose and fix!!

I was cursing my ST earlier when it broke down on the M25!!

 

i disagree as in general they are far easier to work on and cheaper to repair than some of the jap stuff!

 

also try temporarily disconnecting your pectel monitor sometimes these can give faults themselves and cause non starts

My mate had an R32 Skyline GTR and that was a total fucking pig to work on!! Unreliable as fuck too!!

 

My point was they will be unreliable here and there but yes id rather change a box on my saff than my evo lol

Well after a lot of head scratching and cursing I found the spark on my plugs was about half of what I was getting on my wife's Honda Accord. So new set of plugs in and first turn whack it starts. Thanks to everyone, I'm guessing the grey's didn't help flooding the plug aswell. Just a note, my phase sensor still had 0.2volts ac when cranking over so a bit down on reading I should get from the fault finding list. The Fault finding list was great I enjoyed that little part at least. Also after all this I fitted a group a coil,I put the 2 earth wires on the negative side but no spark, but if I put one back on the body it sparks? Any how I'm just glad it worked cheers everyone.

 

Fewww glad its sorted matey.I use NGK iriduim plugs in my saff and have done for years.They are angood plug and have been reliable.

 

This is why I have booked in for new loom, vipec and coils on the plugs, it will cost over Ł3500 and won't add any power (well it will run at its best) but it will put new technology on the car. I can then enjoy the car...I hope. I am also adding supra diff and then a bara box as I think I will have then taken away the weak points of the car.

 

Tbh a wasted spark from stu and a new loom for the weber would be so much cheaper and the car wont make more power on a different ecu unless your going for stupid power

 

Well I did toy with wasted spark but Still think the l8 is quite old now and the trip to blackpool for me is a few days out with a trailer and I plan to go twin scroll in 2014 so that would need a map again, Mark Shead is close to me so it made more sense, plus the loom on my Cossie pug was not very well done so I liked the idea of a full new loom.

Power wise I suspect we will end up 400 to 500 once efr on and engine rebuilt to spec.
