Default hpi help please

Any hpi guru's on board?

Im looking for a 525d m sport, found a lovely one on ebay so goes to look. Car is fine few marks etc so agree a price. Bloke shows me hpi report etc all clear, so I leave a £100 deposit and agree to pick car up in few hours. Something was bugging me so I done a hpi phone check and it came back as a cat d? I contact seller and he says its his private plate that's on the list not the car? Can this be true or is he talking utter bollocks.

Cheers

Absolutly true. My old man had the exact same thing on his new XR3i cabby. We did a check and it cam back with a Cat C warning. The warning showed up on the car because it had a Cherished plate on it which was then transferred to another car which was the subject of the Cat C not the cabby.

We got full details inc VIN of the other car on the report too

The thing you MUST do is to have your own certified proof on paper that the Cat D was not on the car you are buying but another car the plate was also on. Not just the paperwork the seller has supplied!

That's what we did

When i hpi'd my 16i it had a private plate on it and it was recored twice . But when i looked at the report it was the private plate on an astra he had bought after selling the 16i. So it comes up with original reg and any private plates its had in the past. Hopefully this makes sence
