House buying - location:- Yorks/Lincs area?
Doing some research here...
Where do you guys live and what sort of areas are nice to live in?????
I'm looking into buying property and/or moving up North as house prices down here on the Hampshire/Surrey border are fooking ridiculous and I'm sick and tired paying mega money to live where I am just because of it's 'location' and with little chance of getting somewhere bigger
Only stipulation is I want somewhere that's reasonably commutable to London and South East and is 'user friendly' without to much 'car theft risk'
Any help appreciated!

Yorks/Lincs commute to London - rather you than me!
Know what you mean though with house prices in that area. Just glad I moved and didnt have to worry about getting a mortgage in Hampshire.

I don't need to do London on a regular basis - perhaps twice a month at most so not worried about a hefty drive for the short term. Once I have established customers/suppliers closer to where I move then this can be removed from the equation completely...couldn't do that all the time
I want a big enough place to stay for a while so trying to push up the ladder slowly is going to take forever and as already mentioned, when you're spending all your money it's a gain that's worth investigating.
North Yorks - what's the average cost for a decent 3-4 bed semi with garage/drive etc. where you are?
Nath - you're just worried about losing your job!!!

The local papers have said they are set to rise again with the new international airport opening next month.

I live in Barnsley which is right on the M1! Easy access to london by road, or get the Train from Doncaster which as john says is 1:30 to 2 hours.
House prices: 3 bed semi-Ł140-150 ish. 3 bed detached around 180-200.

Thanks a lot guys
Ideally I'd like to be next to, or as close as possible to the M1 as this seems the best option as already pointed out.
I can't afford a helicopter yet or a teleport conversion on the shed so will have to use the car for the time being

Doncaster is good for the commute to London as I do this quite often but be careful which area you look at as you may end under the flight path of a international airport or surrounded by migrants!!!!!!
Also, the M1 is only 15 mins away.

I live just outside of town, small Village about 5 miles out, Med size 3 bed semi Ł110k, Large 5/6 bed Ł200k, the roads are Mint, and when you've lived round here, you get to know all the back roads so when the mentioned roads are rammed, thats not an issue
