Default Cars on the register

Can someone explain a cat b? I thought that's non repairable!? Someone's now told me they had a cat d car which was in a bump and became cat b? Confused.

Can someone clear this up for me please?

Cat B is to be broken for parts only but some people can get them back on the road. Only way I can see a cat d becoming a cat B would be if it got a serious whack?

As far as i am aware

Cat a - total destruction
Cat b - break for spares only
cat c - repairable but requires a vosa check
cat d - repairable and no vosa check required

I've read that cat b cars can be stripped for spares, but they must not be returned to the road (cant remember where I read it mind). Sounds like maybe the cat d car was repaired (maybe not brilliantly?) and had a more serious accident, therefore now a cat b

I was at the scrappy a few years ago and saw a mint RS1800. Bloke said the vehicle cannot be allowed to be put back on the road. I'm sure he mentions cat b. but the car was totally pristine??

sounds like the repair was poor, so when it had a minor bump became break only on safety grounds.

You can have a car cat c'd then d'd plenty of times
It doesn't go cat b after 2 strikes
But usually unstraightenable cars get a B
And being in a river, big fire stuff like that
My wife's escort was cat c'd for a headlamp!
I've seen ka's cat d'd but totally destroyed with rear seat bases pushed up etc

They wouldn't change the category
If its given a c then it stays a c but just doesn't get repaired if its too costly
They won't cat c it then have a repairer call em up to say its worse so please cat b it

Some if the year old audis I've seen going thru the salvage auctions are unrecognisable they are so totally wasted but still c or d'd which is bonkers but they go export get dinged up or bodges up then come back clean 3 months later!

It's regarding a car on eBay.

Got this message

'The car has had 2cat registered accidents making it a cat b, b usually means parts for resale so they take the docs off you.
In this case the car was repaired privately not by insurance then checked by vosa'

Sounds iffy to me
