Driving Licence catagories
Been looking at towing and my paper licence has cat BE on it but on my card it has B and B1 on it. Can I tow combined weight over 3500kg on that or not? Seems to be a discrepancy between the two.
I think you need a c1+e to drive over 3500kg then you can drive up to 8200kg gvw or gtw!
If you don't have that I'm sure you can only drive up to 3500kg be it as iver gvw or gtw via a car with a small trailer.
Different if you have a class 1 or 2 licence though

check properly. DVLA are well known recently for deleting entitlements off peoples licenses.
Also they put the onus on YOU to prove you took the test and they are right cunts about it and have on times refused to accept a photocopy taken by an employee as proof unless it has been signed and "witnessed" as a true copy

Shows how fucking pathetic and desperate they are.
Also DVLA, like most organisations, have regular back ups of thier database in case of loss. Common sense you would say.
However there is NO mechanism or rules in place at DVLA to allow them to get the backups checked for loss of information for an individuals records. They simply wont do it.
Personally I think its rediculous. All they have to do is go back to the date of the last license issue when you know it was good, get the IT bods to chase up and check with the backup company that individual record and job done.
But they wont do it and will instead ruin a HGV drivers career making him go back to redo all his tests and licenses with no compensation at all.

I've got to do the same with a random restriction I've noticed.

I passed on 03/07/98. From the DVLA site that means it says if you passed before 1997 you get the entitlement to drive a car + trailer heavier than 3500 as long as the tow car is heavier. And that's known as category BE. What I don't get is that this is not my original paper part and was renewed last year for a change of address, surely my provisional entitlement will have been taken off? Just wonder what would happen if I got pulled and produced the paper part that shows the correct category for towing on it.

To add this is the back of mine

I did have b+e and c1+e when I renewed my license they were gone so I contacted dvla to ask why. They basically said as I have c+e it supersedes the other two category's so I still have the entitlement even if its not shown
