Default Fiesta rs turbo being converted for hillclimb

Hi, I'm currently building a fiesta hillclimb car so I thought I'd share the progress so far then keep this thread updated as I go along.

First I bought this fiesta rs turbo running a 1.9 forged zvh engine with a genuine 39,000 miles on the clock.

With help from a mate we started stripping all the interior

This is when we realised that although it had only done 39,000miles it was rather rusty.

Ah we can just patch that, think positive so we removed the dash

More rust, I decided after finding this to have a good poke round the car.

The inner pillar was rusty enough to put a screwdriver through it
I then had a look underneath the car and found a lot more rust, I didn't take pictures as I was to busy spitting the dummy. The car then sat for a few months while I considered breaking it.

Then a mate pointed me in the direction of a 1.8 diesel at the local college that was donated for the apprentice mechanics to work on, a quick phone call and they said I could have it for free but on one condition.... That they remove and keep the Diesel engine.. Bonus
So last Saturday I removed the engine from the rusty fiesta

And picked up the diesel

Quick picture of the two together before the rs went to the scrap man

I will update it this evening with the past weeks progress, all comments welcome good and bad. Sorry for not saving the rs but it was beyond my abilitys to restore

Thursday we painted the engine bay on the new shell and fitted the rs engine.

Then yesterday we stripped the interior and test fitted the cage and seat so we could mark out where the plates need to be welded for the cage to bolt to.

Looks good....well....not the rust lol Did you keep the rst bodykit/bonnet to go on the dirty diesel? What do you have to do to get it Hillclimb savvy? Power figure ? Body? If you can turn it into a proper hillclimb contender this will be great

gutted for you mate but looks like you bought the car without really looking at it. you say forged 1.9 zvh..i take it that will be a over bored 1.8...cant see the dip stick at the front or the oil filter . both should be visible from the angles youve shown.. plus still running a t2 turbo?.red sump looks cvh too.... engine looks like a standard frst from the out side.if it was me i take it apart,if its not forged inside or a zetec block id be getting hold of the seller.

Yea kept all the kit and bonnet, I'm gonna keep it looking like a road car bar some slicks on the outside.

Yea it's a bit of a lemon, I didn't check it over as it was highly recommended by a good friend and quite famous man in the ford community

Now I'm glad you asked these questions as I've been questioning this myself as a mate looked at the car and said it looks like standard rs engine, how can I tell without ripping the engine apart??
The dip stick comes out between the head and the inlet manifold, it points towards the wiper motor?

It could be a tall block 1.9 cvh as opposed to a zvh, whip of the sump and look at the pistons and rods!

Yeh could be a 1.9cvh, I'd wip off the sump and check the end caps/rods and look right up and see if you can see and castings on the piston as forged would be smoothed

Yea all the mileage is backed up to prove it... Unfortunately old cars with low mileage means they have been sat round a lot, I assume mine was sat in the sea for a while
