Just a quickie is the type 9 the best manual box for a boa cosworth as its the best option for availability and cost at the moment, also is it a direct fit as I know some of the first motion shafts are longer than others

 

Hybrid a mt75 v6 box with a 2wd dohc box, you may need someone to do this for you. I believe you can also buy a bell housing that fits the t5 to v6, thats the best option IMO

manual v6 mt75 boxes are like rocking house shit.

 

Do you know what needs to be done to the mt75/Dohc box is it a case of changing the shaft or modifying the bell housing to suit I.e is it mechanically done or does anything need machining, the reason I thought type 9 as they are so easy to pick up

 

Rick wood does the T5 Bellhousing to V6, not cheap though but a direct fit.

 

Ah that's good to know ill have a look for a t5 as there just as hard to find one that don't crunch

 

Where abouts are you?

If you do the hybrid, because the mt75 uses an integral bellhousing you need to find an V6 4x4 box for the front part of the case and pull the rear off and swap it for one from a 2wd dohc. Beware its not that easy, you need specialist tools and the knowledge. Even then the ratios are not that great, and you best of swapping the gears for the ones from a 4x4 cos box. So really 3 boxes to make one.

I recently bought a T5 box, had it rebuilt with uprated bearings, new synchros and a new 5th gear and it was only 360 to have all that done. Plus the t5 will take alot more shit.

Edit: Should of mentioned that Type 9 V6 boxes dont last long on BOA/BOB they just break! A mate of mine says they are good for about 150bhp, dont know how true that is but he broke a few.

 

the gear ratios in the mt75 box are all the same other than the diseasal so the cossie box gives you no difference to the standard dohc box

you need the front casing and input shaft from the v6 box and keep the rest of the normal 2wd box, but the t5 is the best option for ratios

 

Interesting, i was told 1st, 3th and 5th where different.

I've rebuilt a load of boxes only for work to repair or replace parts but never done a hybrid on a rwd box, be good to build the hybrid box but I think t5 would be a sensible option

 

Yeh I did read about the type 9s being weak but there's so many ready available and it would get my car movable to test it

 

Yep , I have heard if it can last if you look after them. Give it a go mate what's the worst that can happen. Got to be a v6 one though.

 

It will be hard not to thrash it but seeing as it will be unnatural For the car I'd need to listen for all the teathing problems
