CVH and Type 9
Hi guys, quick question if you don't mind ...
My Type 9 gearbox (marked with an A on the side), it's bellhousing doesn't match the rear face of my CVH engine. Indeed, without removing anything I can actually see the flywheel. That can't be right, surely?
Shoudln't there be some sort of cover or plate for this? I mean - what if a kitten climbed in!! *shudder*
Joking aside, I've removed the gearbox to replace the clutch, and I'm concerned that while driving oil/water/dirt will enter the bellhousing and damage the new friction surfaces.
I've got another question, if you also don't mind ...
While probing around with the flywheel, there's some loose stuff in it's hub, and with a little finger was able to pull out some things that looked like broken pencil leads. I don't /think/ it loses any oil through the oil seal, so what might this be?
Much obliged.

Thanks Jamie's (plural? are you many?) that's what i'm worried about, they do look like something out of some kind of bearing - but what? I thought this was simply the end of the crankshaft. I've taken some pictures, I'd appreciate your perusal, hopefully you (or someone) can identify what might have broken.

"Pencil leads" (as it were):

And if you know anyone who does palm readings:

What's your take on this?

Correct!!
You need to replace that, before refitting the gear box.
Also you need to make sure the main shaft, of the gearbox slides effortlessly into it. When refitting the box. As that bearing is a support for the main shaft. It is very easy to catch the end of the needle roller bearings and break them.
