Default Ford Cougar 4X4 Turbo (Build Thread)

1/6/13 My friend Jim and I drove from Basildon in Essex to Liverpool to pick up my new car. And I named her Evelyn (after Charlie sheens mum in two and a half men)

This is how I was greeted.

The drive home was fast and loud then when I neared my destination taking the roundabouts found the joys that only a 4WD can bring.

first on the list of things to do was change the tyres/wheels as 1 of the tyres was down to the cords and another wasn't far off

Name: 2B56BC10-AFD0-48C6-A418-DA038DA310BE-4778-000000DC3F784912_zps9b155c59.jpg

I opted for some Mk2 Focus RS reps with titan wheel nuts

The problem I encountered was the new wheels wouldn't fit over the cossie 4-pots so then I had to change the breaks for my Mk3 Mondeo callipers with EBC grooved 300mm st170 disks and appropriate spacers and Goodridge braided lines. However all of the conections/ pipes where rusty and broke wile undoing them.
Not a problem tho, as i have a pipe flairing tool and lashings of pipe and fittings.
Bleed them up and problem solved.

Next on the long list of things to do is get rid of the horrendous knock/bang when pulling away. I put it over the pit and most of the rear bushes are worn to say the least. luck would have it that I have a rear set of polyurethane bushes and a nice new and shiny rear end fresh from powder coating waiting to go on.

After fitting the bushes I will have to get the 4 wheel alignment done so I'm going to fit a set of Gaz Gold coilovers at the same time. Which I picked up yesterday.

Busy day today..... So i was up at the crack of dawn to repair a very worn out bush then things took a turn for the worse.

I knew the exhaust had a hole in it from the noise It was making.

And it was.
But then i noticed the split in the weld, un-hooked the hangers and off popped the the back box plus 3 ft of exhaust.

so i thought "Duck it" ill fit my rear sub frame and coilovers.

At around 12 ish after home made sausage and egg mcmuffin i made a start on my front end. How ever i got a bit carried away and only managed 1 pic when it was finnished.

You can just see new and shiny strut.

To days events consisted of having Evelyn the 4 wheel laser alignment checked and adjusted. bloody good job I did to, as the front wheels where towing in 45 degrees and the back camber 10 degrees. Now though it is spot on.

Then I booked her in for a 2 1/2 SS cat back exhaust, Wednesday for that.

After that I enjoyed some hooning around with a very loud half an exhaust.

very nice,
I know you bought the car already converted but i was just interested in how the prop shaft fits, As some people say a new transmission tunel has to be fabricated to accomadate it?
Also i understood that in the mondeo 4x4 there was extra strengthening parts in the boot, have these been carried over to the cougar too?

keep up the good work chap

The floor pan on the cougar is exactly the same as a Mondeo. The only difference being the prop hangers have been welded on and painted bright gold??? And the rear seats had to be adjusted for the fuel tank.

I had a bit of a bump.
I was enjoying my youth and driving somewhat summerly to ken block. I turned into the corner handbrake up arse end out kicked the clutch. But instead of braking traction and spinning up the wheels (4wheel drift). She griped and then bumped up a kerb into a bollard.

damage report.

Wing
headlight
hub
wheel
track rod
track rod end.

As it turns out the track rod arm is part of the steering rack. To replace the steering rack i needed to drop the sub frame. Which is halfway to changing the engine. So wile i was doing that i thought i might as well throw the new race engine in. But as i had some parts i wanted to flet the new engine with i thought now is as good a time as any to rebuild the fecker.
