Ive wanted a Lotus Mk1 for 40 years.Never thought I would get round to getting one until Colin Ginn told me about one he knew of.
Donald Matherson, one of the original five who started the LCR has had this car for 31 years.Up until a year ago he lived in Collier Row 500 yards from my workshop
and the car was in his garden under a sheet for 31 years. He moved to Clacton a year ago along with the Lotus. He told Colin he was thinking of selling it and Colin told me.
We reached a deal and today me and Colin went to get it.A big thanks to Colin for taking an afternoon off from his busy workshop and delivering it 60 miles back to Collier Row.
Its a 65 airflow a frame car.95% of parts are with it.Ive got to strip the rest of the car and scrape all the underseal off and then its back to Clacton to the Lotus factory where Colin will be blasting it and panelling it up as he is the Lotus master. Then back to Collier Row where I will crack on with the bodywork/paint.Im over the moon with it and as im typing this have a big grinn
Great find there ,colin is the man when it comes to cortinas ,say hi to him from the twins
Your right there mate.Im a capri man and no them inside out,but these are a different kettle of fish so he will be blasting this car and panelling it up.Then it will come back to me for prep and paint and rebuild
Started stripping the car down.Only a few bits left to remove and then its off to be blasted.
Never been welded anywhere. No patches on floor or chassis.
Thanks to Colin Gin for making me my new purchase. The Best roll over jig ive seen.Simply bolts to the chassis and then
air ratchet on each end to the desired hight. Can be lowered to the ground then slide the ends off and wheel it in to the oven, perfect.
Will now start to remove underseal.
This one is 100% a keeper.Ive waited a very long time to get one of these. Will do my very best with it and use it at much as poss.
Cheers Paul
Paul if you restore it to your normal standards I'm sure it will give you a good nest egg in years to come should you decide to sell ,but a mk1 Tina has allways been one of my favourite fords just luv the body lines and shape, will be watching this closely
