Have a 1.6 CVH XR2i with the EFi that keeps cutting out. Starts perfect from cold and runs for varying times but when hot will cut out. If moving will sometimes just stutter, then go again but other times will die and refuse to bump start. REV counter drops to zero even if cars momentum is turning engine still.
I suspect coil pack but tested out ok with multimeter and last time I called AA the car refused to cut out for the 15 minute AA was looking at it even though it had cut out and failed to start before I rang them. Also AA mechanic said these older coil packs do not have a memory so the trick of unplugging control plug for a minute, then reconnecting should should have no effect, but this works every time ???
Long winded but wanted to give full picture, and cannot try a a known good coil pack as current one under warranty (6 months old) so if at fault AA must replace.

 

Had this on my old 2i, it turned out to be dirty connector on ECU. I'd pop it out and clean both the ECU terminals and the harness plug.

 

ECU has just one large plug, and seemed to never have been disconnected or even had rubber boot removed. Cleaned up (with interdental brush) but still exactly the same, except Rev counter (Tacho) doesn't work now. Think a fuse popped as I disconnected ECU plug.
Cuts out, I pull over disconnect coil and plug back in and it starts and runs for a while (5 mins or 1 hour sometimes).
Any ideas ??

 

cant help with your problem, but if your ever disconnecting the ecu again, its best to not have it live at the time, lucky you just blown a fuse

 

Rev counter sorted, just disturbed suppressor plug while getting at ECU.

 

The coil, which was only 6 months old was to blame. This was fitted by the AA when original coil packed in last year. They have now refunded cost of replacement, which was less than they charged me for the one that lasted 6 months.
