Hi Guys,
right, first off i cannot afford a V10 one.
however should that put me off owning one?
I think i like the look in the right colour and i can afford a sub 50k one...
are they any good, ive never been in one. I know i need to go and look but buying and selling a few cars myself i dont like just going for test drives!
so anyone like them hate them etc?
im not set on owning one or anything but i do keep looking and in a fortnight ill be able to buy one.
heres one i like and im pretty sure i could get a chunk off the price.

A friend of mine had one in black V8 one with the magnetic suspension, LOVELY car, i drove it a fair few times and it was very easy to drive. Quick but not 'that' quick if you get what I mean. His missus used to drive it as well and she found it very easy. Sounds awesome, turns heads like there is no tomorrow and makes a nice change to a rari!!
All in all if your not overly fussed about being the quickest thing on the road but want a supercar thats more than capable then i'd go for it!
Saying that he has just bought a Nissan GTR for around 40k - WOW what a car, fookin QUICK!!!!

Are these cars tuneable? The standard spec is average IMO compared to the engine and I'm sure it's a computer controlled driving (this easy drive thing). I probably would get bored quickly also. Btw. not the worst / ugliest car but not worth buying I guess.
If i was spending 50k on a car i would be looking at f10 m5's. Nowhere near as showy as an r8 or gtr but thats the apeal to me.
Drove a gtr and thought it was alright really shite quality inside and wasnt as quick as i expected and hard to drive in town due to the tiny windows

I think they are stunning and would truely love to be in your position. Where as I agree that there will be quicker and better cars out there for the money, they have to be right up there for the feel good factor. Showy, yes but thats part of the fun of owning a car like that.
Get it bought and enjoy it, I dare say they hold value well also?

I recently drove the V10 version and I LOVED it. That pic was on the way down from 180. The car was a manual and I'm led to believe that the auto is not a good box. Single clutch perhaps?!
I am Ferrari daft but I would seriously consider an R8 instead.

mate i am a ferrari nut but pleased to be able to buy one of these let alone an F430...
I agree im worried about the fact that the cheaper ones do appear to be auto.
I definitely cannot go above 50k, maybe it would be an idea to wait for the v10s to come down, I have been looking at the Continental GTs which are silly money now and an awesome car, I can also get a bigger engined one of them but they are a bit old man like...
I dunno im a bit confused but i am no means a millionaire so want to be sure before i do it.
Im also really put off by the chocolate gearbox in a GTR...

I have looked at gallardos and there are a couple of lower end ones around the 50K.
theres a white one on PH but its a wrap which puts me off a bit.
i think a nice one is around 70k

I would not touch a Gallardo due mainly to repair costs, the R8 V8 would be a cracking car, l have come close a few times, l think like others have said it wont be the fastest thing on the road but will hold its head high in pretty much most company.

Surely the repaiur cost of an r8 or any other car of the same sort of value would all have high repair and running costs

im not too worried about repair costs as its certainly not a daily driver. i cannot see how a continental GT isn't showy but it is a very each to their own thing this car liking malarky...
i need to go and drive an R8 or at least be a passenger. Ill find a local one and go and have a look

Gt's are going for silly money these days, I have a friend who is a Bentley/Roller specialist, he recently picked up an 04 69k miles full Bentley SH, shade over Ł20,000.
That one had a buyer but if you are serious about one pm me and i'll send you over his contact details, tell him how much you want to spend and he will find you the best one out there.

No way would I want a conti GT. Very old man!!
My 50k would go on a Ferrari 360 every time. I would avoid 355 purely for all the dick head 'it's an mr2' brigade
I know someone who recently paid Ł32k for a 360!!
430 is what I want and it's dropping to the 60k bracket now so almost!
Gallardo is doable at 50 I guess but will be an early model and I think e gear had probs at that age. You need a 2007-8+ I think and would be 70k.

Choppy i agree with you in a way but what an awesome car for the money...
this probably isnt gonna go down to well but i dont like the 360, Its really not a bit of me, i think the F430 is the lowest ferrari i could own.
Ive also looked at 997 turbos which are affordable but just not showy atall for me.
if i can buy something well priced and make a few quid then im even happier, i dont mind holidng on to something for a while as long as it doesnt depreciate too much.

Deffo not for me, or the Ferrari which I think looks dated now.
911 (997 turbo) all the way if that's your ball park budget, personal opinion ofcourse but I'd never even consider either of those two.

MK, it probably is night and day if you can afford to try both or own both, its a bit like saying the 458 and 430 are night and day which l bet they are, but there is also a hell of a difference in cost between the two.

R8 is a stunning motor, but I would go R35 GTR,
Well developed, plenty change to spare for extra mods. And the box is awesome when remapped to latest software (assuming 2009/10 within you're budget), not as chocolate as most make out.

its the cost of repairing the gearbox that scares me... some have quoted 10k!
Times have moved on, A gearbox repair does not have to cost an arm and a leg anymore.
With so many specialist GTR tuners out there offering various upgrade packages, its safe to say the gearbox failure issue is a thing of the past.
I would strongly recommend looking into it, its a car worth owning and turns heads where ever you go.
With a few choice mods such as Y pipe or exhaust system it sounds brilliant.
Spend Ł1500-2000 on it and have yourself a 650bhp daily monster.

I drove an R8 manual back to back with an F430 F1, and I preferred the way the Audi drove , as well as it having a far nicer interior than the Ferrari.
Unless you have bottomless pockets, I wouldn't even consider a Lambo at this price level, as the repair / servicing bills can add up to the cost of the car
.
I found the GTR to be souless and too easy to drive and considering I wanted to use it on track, the consumables would make even Cosworth tax seem insignificant.
I wanted a 997 GT2, but realised I'd have to sell the Escort for that and in the end decided that having all that amount of money tied up in a car would make me scared to use it properly in the environment it was intended for. I then looked at GT3s, but the model I wanted was still too expensive and would have required a huge financial investment - where the prices were still coming down, so not a financially wise move.
In the end I decided to keep the Escort and buy an APPRECIATING classic, so bought a CSL LOL. It does everything I want, can do track work with ease and feels "special" to get in and use
.
However, that was MY thought process - you may want something different from the car of your choice. I like to push my cars to the limit, so they have to take this kind of abuse all day

I'm sure your correct mate but my comment was purely based on the comparison of just the 2 Audi R8's regardless of price as the op said he wasn't sure whether to wait for the v10
