Default Another Oil Thread - 10w60

Right i know about and have read the recommended oils thread...
What i want is people real world experiences of 10w60 engine oil.

I run 10w40 and now im running quite abit more power than standard i want a thicker oil and i feel mine is abit thin when its hot.

So let me know what you've found about 10w60s

My experience is that the numbers say nothing about the quality of an oil. If you look at the datasheets you will find some 5W-50 oils which are much better and "thicker" than some outdated 10W-60 oils. You have to check the datasheets and not the numbers. And a "thicker" oil isn't autmatically much persistent than a "thinner" oil.

For daily normal / hard road use I wouldn't go higher than "..5/10W-50", never mind how much power the car has. A good 10W-60 only for race trim or if its really recommended for the engine.

I've just changed from an ester based motul 5w50 in my Zvh to the Fuchs pro s 10w 50 and it runs so much nicer with better oil pressure hot and cold so I'd stick with that now

don't mind that oil pressure thing too much cause "thinner" oil flows better than a "thicker" one..... more oil pressure doesn't mean more flow rate or better lubrication. put a 20W-XX on -20 degrees in your car and you will see what I mean. You will have high pressure but the engine will rattle like hell for a long time at cold start, cause the oil flows so bad. With a 0W/5W-xx it will rattle not a bit or only for seconds with much less pressure.

That's why a 0, 5 or 10/50 is ideal and pressure should be measured at operating temperature after 30mins of driving.

Tbh, the boost comes in at 1.1bar at 3,000rpm and increases to 1.4 bar at 5,500. So i get a good power band and less strain on the drivetrain.

Engine is completely standard yes... I am thinking of changing the rod bolts, but i dont rev it much past 6,000rpm

The Mobil 10w-40 is a semi and it's fine to use in a standard car, although a 5w-40 synthetic would be a better choice.

The Silkolene (Now Fuchs) is what I always ran in mine Rog, oil pressure was always good even at 32psi of boost on hot summers days beating it up and down the dual carriage way! lol
