Sorry to jump in, but I am also considering going to a tko box and I notice that the input shaft tip is of greater diameter than the T5 box, what solutions have guys come up with for this? Or are we stuck modifying the crank or input shaft of the box?

Cheers,
Damion

You can buy a different spigot bearing that does the job.

You will need to fit a Pro5 shifter to the TKO to make it a similar change to the T5. It really is a bomb proof box been in mine for 13 years now.

When I had a .63 5th in my Tremec you couldnt use 5th under about 100mph so it was useless.

Didnt think of that, It would be worth working out the rpm per 1000rpm and see what it is,
For me the tremec on stock final drive and .82 or .83 what ever it is was just about right for a Cossie.
Also look at the speedo drive as one is electric and the other is cable from mem.

23 mph per 1k
About 180 ish
I've got a didgital speedo that runs of the front wheel
So that will save ME, at least the bother of cables.
Good call though for other people wishing to convert to the tko,

Good call though for other people wishing to convert to the tko,
If you're considering the T56, the drop from 4-5 and 5-6 is huge unless you get one with the 0.83/0.63 5th and 6th. ( there are a few variations, but they're mostly around there. )
The tall 0.74 and 0.5 5th and 6th are huge and make almost any gearing setup awkward.
It works ok on a big V8 with lots of torque though.
Short diff and short overall gearing may help this, but I'm sure it still wont be ideal

Most boxes can run either cable or electric speedo sender, although the T56 is normally electric, so to convert for cable will cost.
I'd guess the TKO could be ordered with either.

The newer TR6060 is regarded as a much better box than the T56, although again comes in a variety of ratios and fitments.

As with any big purchase, no way would I be buying a transmission from the US from a catalogue.

You must speak to a human being and discuss what you need.

RPM Transmissions is a popular choice, or Tick Performance ( at least around GM stuff )

Just an old T56.

It is a rebuilt unit and is supposed to have better shift forks, baulk rings and does have a Viper 31 spline mainshaft and supposed to have cryo'd gears.

That said, the original T56 totally standard T56 I had before never gave me any trouble at all, and still have it as a spare.

I wouldnt say I'm overly abusive when it comes to gearboxes though.

From reports on the 6060, one would be nice, but that's a US$5k nice, so wont be happening any time soon lol
