Help with My Escort Cosworth (over fueling)
Hi All,
I am wondering with the condition of my car. I live in Jakarta Indonesia and hence Ford Escort RS Cosworth is a very very rare one. On New Year Eve 2012 to 2013, I finally got the car with a relatively ok condition.
Condition when I got the car
- Car: Ford Escort RS Cosworth, YB blue top engine
- ECU: Haltech, don't know which one. Original P8 was still there but not used (I opened the ECU and saw pectel thing in it. Wondering if it is an add-on).
- Several sensors have been removed/changed to run with the Haltech ECU, including the crank pulley.
- Ignition: using somehow wasted spark with individual coils (no distributor), taken from Hyundai
Given the above condition, the car runs and drives OK. But the power was not there and top speed was around 120 kmh. I was not happy with the performance and I love any collectible cars in their original condition. So I decided to work on the car to get it back to original condition (all of the works are done by a local garage who never touches Cosworth YB before).
So I have bought several parts to start the project
- Healthy P8 ECU (according to the seller, sealed and tested on a running standard car).
- TPS PF09
- TDC crank sensor
- bracket TDC crank sensor
- distributor straight cap
- Ignition plug set
- Ignition module amplifier
- Ignition coil
- 2.5 MAP sensor
- Water Temp blue sensor
The mechanic worked on the wires and tried as much as possible to keep its originality. I have also bought engine loom connector kit.
The result is that the car starts with heavy over fueling. Black smokes come out from the exhaust. It was only up and running for a couple of minutes and then died.
I checked the injector and it looks like its light blue from the top (not sure).
Could anyone tell me what the potential problems are?
Your help will be very much appreciated.
best, Don
