Default Mondeo ST TDCi Crankshaft Pulley

Our Mondeo ST TDCi has started to develop a rattle from the engine, I believe its the crankshaft pulley, I have read on line its best to use genuine ford parts

Is there a cheaper place to get the kit from than Ford Parts UK?

I bought one from transit parts .......... dont fucking bother, fitted it and it sounded ten times worse than the noisey original and it was throwing the belt around that it wasnt going to stay on so those are best avoided.

My original was put back on and still is on although still want to get it changed, ford parts do a kit with a tensioner aswell but its between 300-400 quid be near 400 if you buy the 2 seperate rollers aswell.

exspensive

I fitted gates pulley kit with genuine ford crankshaft pulley.

I did fit a febi bilstein one before and it failed within a month, tried a other one which also failed so went for genuine which isn't that much more.

Best to get the gates kit for tensioner etc as its cheaper

Here is link to gates kit tho may be cheaper from your local motor factors

http://www.roadrunnerautoparts.co.uk...tail.aspx?id=1

Just noticed gates do a crank shaft pulley which might be worth trying as its half price of the ford one

The ford kit is a tsb to stop pulley/belt rumble. You get crank pulley, tensioner and belt. That engines a noisey twat though what ever you do.

It's best to do the pulley and tensioner at the same time. Getting the cheapest one is a false economy, as you'll be replacing it again not long after!

Did you ever find out about the jag kit ?

Dont see why it would be different though as everything is stamped ford under the jags bonnet as all the seem to have done is put jaguar on the plastic engine cover.

Old Topic... but just a heads up, purchased an SKF tensioner kit, with ALL rollers and tensioner for just over £120, and its the same as the ford parts, on the reverse where the ford logo and part numbers were on the original, it had been ground off.

Same with the SKF tensioner which is for the power steering pump / water pump.

So if you want Genuine ford parts for 1/2 the price, just need to purchase the SKF belt tensioner kit / tensioner and its identical... irony is its more complete as well as it has the 2 other rollers in the box which ford sell separately.

Tensioners are actually made by Liten, but SKF are boxing them up as part of their own kits.

Seen it several times,

In this case liten make the tensioners for ford, they also sell same part as a pattern part... But aren't allowed to sell it with the ford logo.... So they grind it off, then SkF buy it and stick it in their kit.

Happens often, last year I fitted a thermostat housing on a bmw 3 series, it was identical to genuine part and bmw logo had been ground off it.

So whenever you see a part with logo ground off it usually indicates its same as dealer is selling just wirhout the logo.

I have fit a Unipart one to mine, been good as gold for 8000 mile so far, it was about £40 as opposed to £150ish for the Ford one.

I read somewhere about fitting an x type jag one

ford tsb recommend changing tensioner if changing pulley due to rattling, complete jag kit is only about £20 more than pulley from ford, no brainer for me, pulley, tensioner, new bolts, belt and a new guard £179....... ford pulley £160 !!
