mate had a black one. Said it was alot of work putting it in. he had to cut some of the bulk head or something like that.

However it sounded great and was really fun to drive.

how much do you reckon this conversion would cost?

who would be interested in doing it?

or would it be worth just going for a worked n/a engine

should stop thinking about it as the more i do, the more i wanna do it

going to but some magazines about it now, see if theer is any for sale

I got one too...

www.afracing.com and goto projects.

Torque steer and power delivery can be sorted... matt wood's is the cossy equivelent of a t4 and 8 injectors... IE low tech!

Unless you have a large budget, you are limited to more or less standard power (due to busting gearboxes etc) from a turbo a series

100bhp is pretty much the limit for an affordable mini that is reliable.

And you would be better off getting that with a 276cam, decent head, and rebuilt engine.

Far better to put a modern engine in.

Like a 500bhp turbo+nitrous 2.0 16v motor, that seems the sensible option to me

I disagree with people who say the a series cant be tuned, i had a 130bhp 1380 which was nice, did over 130k mile. Turbo wise, u just need to build them properly - all steel and sort the cooling. 200bhp pretty easy.

130k miles on the same engine and gearbox? not likly!

Yes you can easily get to 200 bhp.. and yes the block/crank/pistons will take that...

same the gearbox is good for 120bhp!!!! (though its the torque that kills boxes!)

Std mini is about 660kgs

mine is nearer 500... so with my near std 120 bhp I make that 240bhp/ton

Vtec is the way to go!!!

Mates turbo conversion is furious and fun - but its unreliable, suffers from under bonnet heat problems and at the end of the day the A series is a wheezy 50 year old pushrod engine with or without a turbo!

A series engines weigh a ton too!

go for a xe/vtec or k series

problme with vtec is is difficult to get the gearign right on 10" and 12" wheels, if you use an xe with the f16 box its spot on

Get yourself to V8mini.co.uk and see the install on the black one - belongs to a Finish fella if I remember rightly - it's amazing, it just looks like a sleeper Clubman. You'd never know it had 3.5 litres lurking under such a tiny bonnet

I used to have a MG Metro Turbo many moons ago, great little car and felt pretty fast too!

Although as said as above if the gearbox wasn't playing up then the driveshafts were poping out

Like rocking horse stuff now, v rare.

i had a mini turbo about the time when the new 205 1.9 gti came out,... my mate bought one and was well pissed off when his new pug got wasted at the lights by my mini! was great fun but changing the gearbox every 500-1000 miles was not.
