Nonsense, i think it will effectively shadow the S1.

I like both, and as the S1 increases the S2 will too.

Maybe not to the same extent but it still will do. They aren't getting and less rare. But i think more S2's have been dicked about with and fallen into the wrong hands. Most of the S1's are mint and properly sorted. Not as many S2's are :/

no, s1 has a heritage the s2 was a sales gimmick. s2 will always live in the shadow of the s1 like the 1.6 205 gti lived in the 1.9's shadow, reno 19 16v in the clio 16v shadow etc.....

Iconic maybe not, but valuable yeah it'll follow it.

Obviously the gap between them won't really change much.

But S2's in another 10 years will be worth a fair amount.

If you had storage and access to a solid standard s2 at the right money now, you'd get a good return if you could sit on it for 10-15 years and not put any miles on, its what I'll be doing when the right car comes up.

Will they ever be as iconic as an s1? No. Maybe in 15 years they will do what s1's do now, but they wont ever be on a par at one time, s1 will always lead.

The S1 is such an iconic RS and has such a big following, i loved my old car and should have never got rid - i owned a S2 at the same time and the difference between the 2 is like night and day - personally hated the drive of the S2 so chopped it in for another FRST.

But as value goes i can see them climbing as the parts will become non existent and the good ones will become rarer so automatically command more money, my mate has just virtually finished his car and i'd says it's worth over Ł5k easy so yes they are climbing.

How was it more hardcore??? Because it had big flated arches and a set of spotlights??

A S2 was more toned down to match the fact it "only" had 130bhp. A S1 was a bit far fetched vs a s2. An S2 is miles better looking, even had a nicer interior, 90spec kits where the best and the had an lsd. So imho an s2 was a better all round car. Regret not finished mine!!

yeah because s2's didn't come with spots either lol, its a more raw and hard ore driving experience, essentially the same car but completely different imo, having owned both im in a position to have this opinion

They will follow the same pattern as the 3dr and saff cosworths, overall a late s2 is a much better car than an S1 but the S1 is the icon car and the other will follow behind, but on the same upwards curve.

theirs a simple answer to that ....no ,the s1 is probably the last retro ford built besides the 3dr cossie from that period on everything started to get watered down abit with the exception of the large turbo escos .but all these three were built with motorsport in mind .

late 90 specs s2,s are a nice car ,even my wife likes them, and she absolutley hates s1,s..........enough said lol

The S1 had a tighter diff, had shorter gearing, a higher rev limit, adjustable front tie rods which allows a bit of front end adjustment, and shit front brakes to make your bum twitch when you press the pedal! The S2 was toned down a little as they weren't intended to be used in motorsport like the S1 was (the Cosworth was due to appear for that role).

I think the S1 will increase in value and pull out a larger lead on the S2 than it already has, but then the S2 will start to increase too then shadow the S1 as the values change.

Prices keep goin up but they must stop or no one. Will afford them it dosent help a few real nice low milleage clean cars going for silly money then everyone thinks there cars arr worth the same will all fords follow the same trend ? Are they still an investment now will they really go up that much more and what other cars will follow rs 1600i, mk5/6 rs 2000 later xr3i's gti's xr4's or will it be like the mk1 and 2 escorts and all models go for silly money and ifthe rule is true will the mk1 focus rs be worth more than the mk2 in years to come ?

I would say yes regarding the price of near enough any ford over 20 years old, there's some shite out there for silly money right now.

There was a boy on here trying to sell a 5dr mk4 escort for Ł2000 odd a few weeks ago which in all honesty was a Ł500 car when I was in my youth, but like a mk1 focus 5dr now, probably never become an iconic car due to the fact they don't really rot badly and have tough mechanicals hence should keep going ok for a few years yet.
Still in the future I can see a really nice st170 pulling in good coin just cos their a good car that people almost forget about,a bit like the mk5/6 rs 2000,whose prices are starting to climb a bit now for nice examples.

I would say in just the last year or 2 prices have gone through the roof for all models which is a shame as many will struggle to get the cars of thier childhood but I will keep saving for my mk1 in hope they will stop going up or come down a bit in value when people struggle to sell as no one can afford to buy

I think it the series 2 will rise in value. The series one may have been more 'hardcore' but it was a rallying failure. Remember the mk3 Escort was considered a pile of dung following from the iconic Mk2.

Surley everyonw saying the s1 was 1st but the 1600i was the 1st front wheel drive rs but these arent as much money as some of the s1 will these ever be worth more as must be fewer of them about? But as with everything demand will push the s2 up to s1 prices

S2's will alway rise in price as with any other 'classic' cars but S1's will always be more i reckon. In 30 years time they may balance out a bit as they get thin on the ground but for now the S2 will always be in the shadow.

It's all about supply and demand. If there aren't enough good cars to meet demand, prices rise. Basic law of economics.

Say a major British film (ie. a Lock Stock, Sweeney etc type of flick) for instance had a S1, a 3 door - or a S2 - in there - the profile of the cars rises, demand rises so short term so will prices. I think prices of S2's (good ones) will steadily rise but will they go into a vertical curve ? I doubt it.

S2 was a boy racer car and will have been smashed up and modded more than the S1 in comparison.

Finding a good unmolested straight S2 in the future will be difficult.
