Default My Cossie is poo

Hello all

I have defected from the Evo 6 scene, after having a couple of Evos and still having one of them, i thought i would buy an Escort Cossie as i have always fancied one, what a mistake that has been

I collected the car from Manchester (i live in Kent) and the fecking thing broke down after just 30 miles i had to get it recovered all the way home.

To cut a very long story short, a cam had managed to snap itself clean in half, wonderful, got all the right bits to sort the car, was going to be fully serviced and pampered.
Went to change the oil seal on the crank and on removing the crank pulley, what happens, the bloody pulley came off clean in my hand.

Are these things made of plastercine or something, not liking my new Cossie experience one ounce, the engine is out now and im going for a full engine and turbo rebuild from Harvey Gibbs

It did have a good spec, should of been about 430 bhp ish approx, but until something else breaks i'll just clean and polish the engine bay, but hey, its a Ford i spose

More than likely, but the chap i bought the car from is stumping up towards the rebuild, which is good, but i did pay top money for this car and it was perfect on inspection and long test drive etc.

Suppose i have been used to the luxury of a Jap car that doesnt break

You've got three options
1. polish it and compete for bufty awards
2. kick the shit out of it, it'll break
3. spend a little time & effort & money on it, then kick the shit out of it, and it should be fine.
At least they are cheap to fix

I have never heard of a cam snapping.
i have snapped an inlet cam between pot 3 and 4 ..............it had something to do with the valves clouting the pistons at 6000rpm when the belt broke

and this was the best valve out of the lot

Yeah cheers for the welcome chaps.

It'll get better, i'll make sure of that, i think it snapped due to the cap on top of the cam being very loose due to wear or where it has been poorly assembled. Just as the nice weather comes too, bummer, plus it hasnt got air con, whereas im used to climate control in the Jap motor

But, im sure it will be fun

Mine had a full rebuild within 6 months of buying it too... but now i love it!
As for air con, open the window and listen to the exhaust

Always fancied one and the depreciation aspect mate, i will drive the thing once ot twice a month, to have a nice Escort Cossie sitting in the garage is better than an Evo 6 sitting in the garage, but i might keep both yet

AJ,

I have had 2 Evos now, both 6's and they leave me feeling exhausted if i have driven it for more than an hour or so, its just not comfy, but a far better car of course, didnt like the power delivery either !

I reckon you will be impressed with the scs engine,it will make the evo feel tame and it'll increase the cars value

Every post you make makes you sound more and more like a complete moron.

We have a Pulsar GTiR here, and it has been completely faultless.

We also have two cossies, and both have been less than perfect in the reliability stakes.

If properly maintained, most cars will be reliable - cosworths can be the exception.

Tell you what 'RICHie', i'd sell the Escort, and keep the Evo. - seems you've bought the wrong car mate. - and you're on the wrong forum. -

Can't you all see this bloke is taking the pi$$??

when you own a escort cozzy you own something very speciel
but the evo is the only other turbo charged car i think looks very cool

Rich your right mate, everytime someone mentions an evo or summat jap this goon comes on & chats abit of crap!
What the real reason you hate jap motors dude? Gotten your arse kicked by a few or summat?
I seriously would like to know so the next time you post abit of shite we might be able to see where your coming from.

90% of cossie unreliablility IMHO is due to poor maintenance, poor modification and poor tuning, yes, they do break down, but if a car is built properly it is much more likely to hold together, and if you are putting 400-600BHP through a 15yr old 2 litre car, you have got to expect problems , the good thing about cossies is any monkey can have the engine in bits in an hour using 10mm, 13mm spanners and a screwdriver , 4x4's are a little bit harder to work on, but they are soooooo simple its untrue
Don't skimp on maintenance or mods, and your car will be reliable, simple really
I have seen 2 snapped cams in cossies, both due to the studs holding the cam caps on either stripping the top threads or the threads in the head being stripped , prob due to over-tightening

nope, it's just that he's slagging off Fords in general, and being a big head. - can't you see? - read his posts.

nothing against Evo's or Evo drivers. Super cars, and of the people I know who own one, ditto.
