Default Turbo gasket

Hi guys I have just got a S2 turbo it runs great bit it is blowing on the elbow is there meant to be a gasket between the elbow and turbo?

Also it peaks at 22psi but drops straight away to 10 do you think that could be due to the blow or just a weak actuator?

No it shouldn't as I changed mine a few years ago with no gasket and runs perfect.

the fact that it reaches 22 psi then drops points to a weak actuator. are you still on the amal valve? could be related to a faulty amal aswell. id avoid gaskets at the turbo at all costs. the turbo flange to the header gaskets you can buy are a waste of money. i put one one when i fitted a new turbo and it blew it out the first time i put my foot down. x2 flats surfaces beat a gasket.

try it without machining if you can, they normally seal as long as there a pair.

Could also be that the turbo cannot flow enough to hold 22psi, what turbo is it?

What spec T3? Stock RST one will hold maybe 15psi where as a stage 3 will hold 32psi.

A std t3 I believe mate

I hav had it machined flat as about a inch of it was was out buy half the thickness of a finger nail it sounds loads better now but still peaks 22 and drops to 10. Shall I just turn the boost down to say 15psi

I think you are asking alot from the standard turbo to flow 22psi, id think 15/16psi a much safer bet. See if you can adjust it to run less boost.
You could also have a boost leak somewhere, like a loose hose etc. Letting 22psi past it but tight enought to hold 10psi.
Id start with turning the boost down, checking the actuator or replacing it with a -31 item then a boost leak test

As above, all sound advice!
Also a well worked head increases your engines VE dropping the boost pressure at any given power level... The head flows easier, less back pressure (boost).

Also worth noting that if its a Piper 285T2 it will feel quite flat anyway.

It pulls like a train when it hits 22 but then it's just gay as it drops to 10

yeah its surprising how much difference it makes. If you're anywhere near Jano at Oddkidd he does setups at very decent prices.

Couple degrees more advance makes it feel much crisper on the throttle.

It does feel good on throttle tbh mate just loses boost something isn't holding so I will have to have a good look through it all

All the boost pipes are tight I think the intercooler is all good and not leaking I will get the act tested and see if its any good

It's your turbo as we've said mate, a stock T3 will not hold the boost you are asking with a modified and cam'd head (or even without), an EBC might force a few more PSI out but thats not how it should be done, you need a stage 2 or 3 T3 for more power.
