Default Just bought an st170 estate

I just got my st170 estate today in grey done 78k ffsh and top condition, drove it home and it felt a bit sluggish, checked the so called imrc and found the cable disconnected from the dsi with a cable tie wrapped around the nipple the cable clips onto. So I fit the cable back on and the car sounds and goes much better, looking through the service bills when serviced in January this year at ford there is a note saying imrc needs further investigation and may need replacing. Just wondered why cable would have been disconnected and a cable tie on the dsi. Cheers ste

No management light when driving but comes on with ignition and goes out when started as it should, spoke to the last owner last night and he said when he took it to ford for service in jan it had a sticking accelerator peddle and light came on once but went out again. Then while having his other car looked at by an auto electrician he lubed something I assume it was throttle body. Will see how it goes this week but seems to be working like it should.

That's a bit wierd, the management light should come on if there is a problem with the imrc or if it has been disconnected. I'd be checking to see if the light is wired properly!

If it is coming on with IGN and going out when started then it should be working properly, no? Only way I can think to test it would be to disconnect one of the lambda sensors and within a few miles especially once warmed up it should come on as being too rich or no response from one sensor unless there is a quicker way to bring it on without doing harm.

Easier way would be to unplug the MAF sensor. I have seen before with management issues, the light is wired to the oil pressure light or similar, so it still comes on and off with the ignition!

Cheers for the help, I will unplug maf and see if light comes on while running, if so then all is well and can only assume that the cable had just popped off the dsi because it runs and works like it should. The cable tie that was on the nipple where the cable clips on the dsi would that have stopped the management light coming on if it was holding the flap on the manifold open or closed?

I disconnected the maf and management light came on so it's fine, car is going like it should unless it had an intermittent fault on imrc time will tell. Another thing rear park sensors weren't working, wires had been cut in boot so I reconnected them and the work fine, why would somebody disable them if they work?

No tow bar, if a sensor went faulty they may have disabled it but it works fine now reconnected, as for the cable on the dsi lever been disconnected that's a mystery

I'm a sucker for a sporty estate. This is only the 2nd 170 estate I've seen, a rare beast indeed
