Unhappy Niggles on a Sport Ka

Hi

Having spent ages trawling the forum for a reason why my MPG was so shocking, I think I now have that dealt with. There are however a few minor rthings that are bothering me;

1. The biggest problem is the brakes. They'll stop me when needed, but the travel is horendous and instills no confidence. Checked the drums, discs, pads, delf adjusters and bled them (incase of air) and nothing has made any difference. Any other ideas?

2. When I slow down, just before stopping, there is a creaking from the rear. I thought it was brake related, but today, I slowed down with the gears, and just as I ot down to about 5mph - 0mph, there was the same creaking. Rounds like it's coming from the offside (drivers side in UK) wheel, but I can't replicate it on axle stands, so other suggestions welcome.

3. and this really is a monor niggle, there is a fuse ticking in the fuse box. It's a little quieter than the indicator noise, so most noticable, and its constant...honnestly. It's random too, no pattern, but it clicks on and off, constantly. I've removed and cleaned all the contacts and I can't think of anything that would randomly click on and off throughout a journey.

Any advice would be SO appreciated, before I drive off a brige, driven mad by the ticking, creaking and the brakes failing on me! (Only kidding).

Thanks in advance. I'm off to investigate making the 5th gear a bit longer so that 60mph is not such a revvy chore!

Brakes suck - Get some uprated discs and pads, or do a conversion to bigger ones - mondeo v6 brakes fit and ST170 fronts

Creaking is probably a bush/mount that needs replacing.

As for the short fifth gear you could have a normal ka 5th put in?

Thanks - why would the bush/mounts creak only as I slow down between 5-1mph. If I stay at that sort of speed, say slow down to a crawl, and then speed up a little (like at a junction or any kind of queue) it'll continue to creak! I's certainly the rear, but think it's rear offside.

Thanks for the note about the uprated brakes - that's sounds like a really good option. Is it a straight swap or do I need a spacer/adaptor kit to get them to fit on to the mounts?

Strange!

To fit my ST170 brakes all i had to do was drill out the two caliper holes ont eh hub to 12mm form 10mm. I think its the same for the mondeo ones.
