Default Mk2 fiesta ST 170

Hey all new to the forum thought id join as this looks like the place i could get decent advice on a project im thinking of doing in a couple months time with my dad, Am thinking of getting a mk2 fiesta shell and intergrating the focus st170 running gear, engine, gearbox, brakes, drivetrain, rear axle etc etc. mainly to save on cost as these can be picked up fairly cheap and still be fairly quick! then over time uprating to higher spec parts, long story short will this be too much work and just too impractical ! BTW loving the projects ive seen on here

You're kidding? Focus rear axle into a MK2 fiesta???

Put the ST170 engine into your car, use a 5-Speed BC or IB box, do a common brake conversion and everything will be fine.

It physically fits into the engine bay. But you'll need custom driveshafts and custom mounts. Especially the mounts are a lot of work because they're totally different from the mounts usually fitted into the MK2 Fiesta. Would be a lot of cutting and welding involved. I'd go for a BC or IB box instead. Just 5-speed, but it fits (nearly) plug&play.

Im sure i can source a bc gearbox from somewhere, should make life that little bit easier! Custom mounts should be okay, bit more concerned with the custom driveshaft tho

Use a 5speed. The MK2 is about 300 - 400 kg lighter than the ST170 so 5 gears are more than enough. And you won't be able to use the top speed you might get out of the box.

I was thinking the 5 speed box, the power to weight ratio will be more than enough for a novice like me
